He is motivated by the poverty he is exporting.

The overwhelming majority of illegals are uneducated and poor. Their coming here benefits his country because they send HUGE sums of money into the Mexican economy and he no longer has to provide any assistance to them. It also pacifies large segments of the population due to that cash flow. They are less likely to demonstrate or cause other civil upheaval.

mikea_va - He does not want to keep his citizens there. Like every third world, uneducated populace, the Mexicans reproduce far faster then their country or they themselves can support that population. The only solution is to encourage people to leave so that they have the capacity to provide infrastructure and other services. The alternative is a revolt of some sort.

Shawty1isback - actually studies have shown that the fence is extremely effective in reducing illegal immigration flows where they are placed. Since the fences we have are so limited and short the illegals simply move a few miles to either side. Crime is also significantly down in those areas protected by the fence.

HE WAS NOT CRITICIZING HIM FOR THE FAILED IMMIGRATION REFORM ............ HE WAS CRITICIZING THE WALL WHICH WOULD DO NOTHING TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP THE IMMIGRATION PROBLEM. HAVE THE EXISTING FENCES DONE ANYTHING SO FAR? NOT FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN.

Calderon argued that the fence would do little to stem illegal migration. But he also praised Bush for pushing for immigration reforms, and acknowledged that improving economic conditions and generating more jobs in Mexico "is the only way in order to truly solve the migratory issue."

President Calderon does not even compare to ex-president fox.

DAR is a somewhat informed about what is going on in Mexico. President Calderon is trying to get Europe to invest in Mexico as well as Brazil (with their ethanol oil). Many people did not like the fact that Calderon was president (the Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador supporters) but that's too bad, he's there to change Mexico for the better and I just hope the next president has the same goals as Felipe Calderon.

I think he is better than Fox.

1. He is cracking down on drug cartels with the military.

2. He has actually caught illegal immigrants coming into the US (granted, not Mexicans).

3. He has extradited cartel types to us for prosecution.

I think Calderon has to show Mexico he is on their side, and unlike our President for us, he actually is on their side. Also unlike our President I think he understands we actually have to see substantive results and true change in direction before we would be open to any of what he wants.

He is supposed to be a proponent for their country. I only wish ours were as good a proponent for our interests.

goes to show you know little about immigration.

All illegals are not from Mexico (unless he was specifically talking about Mexican illegals).

And no, I wouldn't believe that because anyone can come here and spit lies just to inflame people into talking trash about Mexicans (like you tried to do).

Yea, some nerve. I just want to know what he would do if 10 million poor U.S. citizens tried to sneak into Mehico & make demands that they would not deserve.

Clearly he or Fox doesn't care about his citizens or his country!!
As President of a country, don't you want to keep your citizens from escaping to another country???? Shouldn't a President try and fix the problems his country has?????
