I have cancer(not lung cancer) and I smoke. I know it is crazy. My sister smoked 3 packs a day for 15 years and her Doctor gave her Wellbutrin XL. She took 150 mg for a month then uped it to 300 mg and in a week she stoped. She smoked the last one in her pack before bed and the next day she said she would think of smoking the she would remember she was out and go on with what she was doing. She said the urge was never strong enough to go buy some, like haveing a cig. was just a passing thought. I Started on Wellbutrin 2 weeks ago and I have slowed down. I will start taking 300 mg next week.

Make a list of the reasons you want to stop
Make a list of what you will gain by stopping
Send for information on stopping from the Cancer Society or Lung Association
Find a buddy to encourage you
See if there are free support groups in your community from the ministry of Health
Check with your doctor to see whether you can use Nicotine Replacement Techniques (NRTs) or Zyban
Don't wait til the right time. There is none
Have at it. Remember it is a process to quit anything you do in that direction adds strength to you desire to stop
In the last 6 years in my town smoking has dropped 10% to 15% of people over 18
Good Luck

You can quit smoking, and here are some tips to help you get started today!
- Throw away any cigarettes that you have left. Having them there in your sight will make it so much harder to quit smoking.
- Try using gum or candy every time you feel the need to smoke. If this doesn’t work, you can try medical products like nicotine gums or patches to help you quit smoking.
- When you feel the need for a cigarette, take deep breaths for about 3 to 4 minutes. (Don’t hyperventilate, just breathe slowly.)
- Keep a journal about your attempt to quit smoking. Looking back over it will motivate you to keep going, especially if you see how hard you’ve worked.
- When you think you want to smoke, take a ten minute walk. Think about how hard you’ve tried and what you have accomplished. Think of your children, or your spouse, or any other reason you have to quit smoking.
- Often, the habit of smoking is missed more because you have nothing to do with your hands. It’s psychological. Try doing something with your hands while you quit, such as crocheting, learning to play the guitar, or drawing.
- Contact a support group. Going through this can be hard, and speaking to other people who are going through it as well or have already gone through it can make it easier. It’s nice to vent your feelings to someone who will understand exactly what you mean.
One of the things to keep in mind is that you can think of all the good reasons to quit smoking, even including the fact that your hair and your clothes smell like smoke long after you've finished that cigarette. You can tell yourself that you are doing it for other people, but the most successful reason to quit smoking is to do it for YOU. That's right, do it for yourself, for your health, to reduce your expenses, for all of those reasons. If you do it for YOU instead of totally for someone else, the chances that you will stick to it is much greater, because you will hold yourself accountable to YOU.
Only if you have the WILL POWER you can achieve quitting of smoking.
You will be so glad when you are able to kick this habit. The feeling of achievement is something that you will never lose. You will be healthier, happier, and proud. Get started today and good luck. You can do it!-

Smoking is a major risk factor for most cancers and cardiovascular diseases. If you do not die because of lung cancer or all the other cancers and diseases it can cause, you might cause your loved one (or somebody close to you) to have lung cancer because of second hand smoke.
So stop cold turkey. It will be hard but if you love yourself and if you care about the people around you, you will.

Stop smoking spontaneously. If you feel nicotine dependence, consult the doctor.
