Hello; I've never been on antidepressants, but I am familiar with their uses and some common side affects. The most common that I know of is Trazodone/Trazidone; it causes sleepiness, and is often used in treating insomnia as well. Other side effects are; lethargy, and weight gain. To a lesser degree, chronic thirst.

I hope this helps;
Marcos

I have had to take Lexapro in the past. It's a seratonin reuptake inhibitor. Way safer than tricyclic antidepressants. For the first couple of days you may feel loopy or out of it, but it goes away. And after that it takes about 2 weeks to notice a major difference. I noticed that I was beginning to "live" again rather than just "exist". It was a positive experience overall for me. I only had to be on Lexapro for 9 months. After that, the doctor told me I could go off of it.

No I have not been on any but know people who have and there are a myriad of side effects. One needs to use extreme caution when using alcohol with antidepressants and there are other drug interactions with even antibiotics that can be detrimental. These drugs need to be used with extreme caution. True clinical depression is probably not as prevalent as the medical profession and pharmaceutical industry would have us believe.

I've been on Paxil, Zoloft, Cymbalta, Buspar, Wellbutrin, and Effexor. Each medicine had it's own set of side-effects that came with it. The most common one was sexual side-effects, where I had an extremely difficult time achieving orgasm; this seemed to be the worst on Zoloft. Paxil and Cymbalta made me very lethargic. Wellbutrin gave me a rash all along my arms! I lost weight on Zoloft and Buspar. When I went off Paxil, I had an awful time of nausea, sleepiness, and a feeling of electric shocks going down my arms. And if you forgot to take any of them for more than a day or two, the withdrawal was awful--lots of crying and shouting.

I right now am taking 400MG of Sertraline (Zoloft)
60MG of Mirtazapine, both are antidepressants, and the max. dose for each. I also take1200MG of lithium and 5 MG of Lorazepine

Side effects: I have memory trouble, Lorazeoine causes amnesia. Lithium "mellows" me out, makes me a little sleepy. The antidepressants are keeping my head above water and a shotgun out of my mouth!

I just read one reply above and the young lady said she had trouble having an orgasms. Well that is one of the side effect for guys too. Can you say "ONE HOUR"????

I have been on several over the years. Zoloft, paxil, effexor, lexepro, buspar. Buspar after juust a few months left me week, and confused. All the others worked well but after awhile lose their abilty to do the job, or you can say your body no longer responds the same way. I now take Effector.

I have been on antidepressants most of my adult life, different meds have different side effects, but none were bad, and all passed with time.

Amitryptiline.

It's worthless, it doesn't work. I wouldn't take it if it was the last thing to save my life.

Side effects are dizziness, headaches (which it's supposed to treat), and it does nothing to change your mood!
