I just picked up the cleaning job at my doctor's office where I work and was told that I would get a flat fee of 130 bucks extra a week to clean twice a week.

Well I got my check today and taxes were taken out like usual, but even money was taken out of my cleaning...needless to say the tax deduction was higher because I made more.

Should I curiosuly ask my boss about the "130 flat rate" for cleaning and tell her I didn't realize that money gets taken out of it or should I just let it slide...we are talking about a decent difference that I should be getting...

Should I ask for a separate check like a "Pay to the order of" type thing as if they were paying a bill?

Legally your employer has to take out for taxes. It doesn't seem fair to see all your hard earned money get taken out that way, but then again it is better than paying for it during tax time.

You gave her a quote for 130 dollars, most people in this situation just get given a check or cash for the amount agreed by both parties. In other words you were expecting a check for $130.

If she is taking out tax etc then are you classed as a part time employee of the place? Are you classed as self employed? You may need to see a tax consultant to see where you stand if she pays the tax or you do.

I would find a time that is convenient to the both of you and then mention what you saw when you got your pay. You might explain that your understanding of the "$130.00 flat rate" and what is happening are two different things.
I would tell him/her that while you understood about taxes being taken out, you were misinformed about " more" money being taken out for your cleaning". I would definitely ask about the 2nd part"
I hope this is of some help. I know that I would speak up - you work hard for that money and are expecting a certain amount.

No he did what he said he would do and that was give you a flat rate no matter how long it took you to clean. The government says that you pay taxes on income earned. Unless he said he was paying you under the table cash he is keeping his end of the contract.

I would guess the flat fee was whether it took you 2 hours or 20 hours to clean he was paying you $130 no matter what, paying not by the hour but for the job.

i'm sure that She didn't mean that She would pay You "under the table." Taxes are a pain. i wish MiLady could get one month's pay without any taxes taken out. She deserves it.

Every dime they pay you has to have taxes taken out (I know, it sucks). If they didn't take them out now, you'll be paying them at tax time in April.
