My boyfriend's mom used to make him this seven up cake, it was a recipe she got from hawaii..however she lost her recipe and with my boyfriend's birthday coming up soon I wanted to see if i could find it. He said it had this layer of "green" stuff on the bottom that you poke holes in and pour the seven up in. Then it had a thick topping on it...does this sound familiar to anyone?? ok I know sounds a bit weird (the "green" stuff part anyhow) If anyone can help me out please!!!!

What green stuff? His mother probably added his favorite pudding or custard in the bottom when the cake is baking.

Make this cake therefore in two stages. The custard gets placed while cake is still hot .Cool and refrigerate

Seven-Up Pound Cake
From The Rocky Mountain News
This is an old recipe that comes from a request in the local paper for "Classic Recipes". They called the 7-Up bottling company and they did not even know about it. Someone developed this on their own and never let the company know about it. BTW 7-Up comes from the popular card game in the 1930's.

1 cup butter or regular margarine
1/2 cup shortening
3 cup sugar
5 large eggs
3 cup unbleached flour (cake flour was not specified)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp lemon extract
1 cup 7-up (room temperature)

Cream the margarine, shortening and sugar together beating until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, blending well after each addition. Beat in the flour, then beat in the extract and 7-Up. Blend well. Pour the batter into a well-greased and floured tube pan and bake at 325 degrees F for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Luv 7Up cake!

I'm not sure about the "green" stuff but I have seen some people put lemon pudding on the top to enhance the lemon/lime flavor. I also have seen some people a coconut topping on the top of the cake.

Good Luck!

I have a 7-Up recipe booklet from 1963 and sorry to say there isn't anything in the dessert section that's even remotely as you've described. Must've been a special creation.
