It is very heartwarming to read that you want to help your coworker. So often with allergies people do not understand or care to understand.

What would be helpful is if your coworker could identify what he is allergic to. Encourage him to get checked out if he has not already done so.

If he knows what he is allergic to than there are many things that can be done depending on the allergies. For example, if he is allergic to dust and pollens then ensure the ventilation system is clean and maintained and have an air filtration system installed. (It could just be one to in the room he works in.) If he is allergic to smoke/scents then implement a scent/smoke free environment.

What you can do is limited by what your coworker is allergic to, the willingness of others, as well as how much you are willing to spend.

Oh dear....

Well, if anyone at your work place smokes, ask them to take it away from your sick co-worker. That smoke is bad anyway, and for someone with breathing difficulty it would be worse. If you can, you'll want to pitch in to keep your work place clean (if you work indoors). Having the dust removed will help a lot. So will cleaning out the filters to your heating/AC system, if it hasn't been tended recently. And it wouldn't hurt to look for mold.

Meanwhile, your co-worker needs to see a doctor. Those allergies do sound bad. I'm even tempted to call it asthma.

Good luck!

well if his allergies are that bad he shuld go see a doctor...make sure he also does not develope sleep apnea. he can try using those nose strips, also he should use on a regular everyday basis salt spray. Its a nasal spray that is safe for everyday usage it helps keeps the passage open & makes it easier to breath. Also a good thing for allergies & such...is a pharmacudical they now sell over that counter (also safe for everyday usage) called mucinex! it might take a day or two of using to see results but it has worked wonders for me! good luck

Could be a lot things causing it. Is he overweight, does he have a deviated septum? Try to let him relax as much as possible and tell him to seek medical attention if he wants help. Sometimes cooler air or humidified air is help. If it is allergies Benadryl or any other over the counter med is a help.

There's not much you can do at the office for him to help alleviate the issues until her finds out exactly what allergies he has. It could be pollen, or it could be something internal like mold and dust.

Bottom line: he needs to see a doctor to rule asthma out, and he also needs to make sure it's not related to his weight (if he doesn't have a healthy BMI). For now, over-the-counter medicines like Claritin might help alleviate some issues.

Hi Justlookin

That is very kind of you to want to help your co-worker,if more people were like you,it would make people with allergies lives so much easier!I wanted to commend you for trying to help your co-worker and your care.I appreciate that!

The best way to help your friend is to just offer to be supportive.Since he seems to know what is going on with himself medically, you can ask if he visits an allergist, and what his allergies specifically are.Just be an encouraging light.

for people with allergies every where thanks for your concern and care.

Hugs!
