Any substance has the potential to have long term effects, but depending on how that substance is used will determine whether or not those effects are positive or negative.

Alcohol abuse damages the liver and the brain in addition to other problems that stem from substance abuse.

However, responsible and light to moderate alcohol consumption is revealing that there are some health benefits. Alcohol aids in removing fatty buildup from around the heart and inside the arteries. It also helps to dissolve dangerous blood clots, and thus translates into reduced risk for heart attack and stroke. There is also preliminary evidence that seems to suggest that there is a link between improved kidney function and lower risks for diabetes in those who consume alcohol responsibly.

It really depends on how wisely you consume alcohol.

well, depending on how much you drink..you may get drunk as a future effect. and even though it seems like its light years into the future, there is often a hangover involved..which always comes way sooner than the future 'drunk you' thinks it will.

as far as drinking an alcoholic (human being with a drinking problem) ..i wouldnt recommend it. though you may consume some alcohol initially, the future effect is miniscule and short in duration. There is also a high possibility of ingesting viral matter, pertaining to std's, hiv/aids, the common cold..etc.
Your also alot less likely to get arrested (as a future effect) if you just go buy a bottle of alcohol from the liquor store, as opposed to drinking a drunk.

The liver among other organs like the stomach
There is a link btw alcohol abuse and cancer of the mouth and throat expecially if the drinker smokes as well
Plus alcohol is a depressant, excessive consumption over time can affect the nervous system, and possible brain damage.

If you drink every day or drink too much (binge) frequently, you could damage your liver, kidneys, stomach, pancreas....you name it. You can also permanently damage brain cells. All kinds of things.
Another effect is you could act very stupid and humiliate yourself. Or you could decide you are OK to drive when you are not and kill yourself or someone else.
So yeah, there can be future effects from drinking alcohol.

Chirrosis of the liver, eventual kidney failure. If you live long enough, your skin breaks out in draining lesions, you swell up from retained fluids, and your skin and eyes turn orange. You leak fluid from your pores. If you are a woman who is alcoholic, you may also cause your child (if you become pregnant) to be born with fetal alcohol syndrome, which commits the child to multiple and lifelong problems, not the least of which is mental retardation.
