Looking for answers from the past. And though you have to 'dig them up', you still have to work on 'cleaning' the memories so what you are looking for is clear to you.
The 'third party view' (seeing yourself doing something) means inability to take responsibility for some action. We 'watch' ourselves do something that we wouldn't believe we could do.
Has someone you cared about passed recently? And if so, were you able to say everything you wanted to say to them before they passed? The scenario you presented also speaks to the need to 'resolve' something with someone who has passed. This could be recently, or some time ago.

digging up and washing a corpse indicates you are digging up old stuff and giving it more care and attention than it deserves. Let the past go, let dead issues be dead. You are watching yourself perform this action which means you may just be trying it on to see if it is a valuable thing to do. Your feelings while watching could give me more information.

Maybe something from your past, something you thought was "dead and buried," is coming back to haunt you because there is still something to be learned from it? If so, washing the corpse would seem to be a good sign, since you're treating it with respect.

I agree with Laurel J about the first part of the dream, but I feel the part about washing the corpse is your desire to "come clean" and erase the secret part of your life. Your conscious is bothering you about keeping the secret.

It means that you are laboring and being dilligent to dig up something that was dead and buried. And issue in your life that was resolved and put to rest. But now you have brought the subject back up and are trying to clean the issue up
