train her the way you would train a guy you were coaching or somthing. dont go easy on her, put her to the test, see how fast she can go and then push her to beat her time by a second the next time. Have her watch how fast a real runner can go to show her how hard she needs to work.

Im the girlfriend of a cross country runner and a pole vaulter and hes training me right now. I thought it was just gonna be like hanging out, but now i know you cant joke around when trying to get better. You have to get the job done.

Start her with interval training. After a warm up have her jog for 30 seconds, walk for 1.5 minutes, and keep repeating this throughout your route. Gradually increase the run time and decrease the walk time. If she is already somewhat a runner than you can do the 30 seconds as a sprint and the 1.5 mintues as a slow jog instead of a walk.

I would suggest that you run with her at her pace for a little while and then every other day I would pick up the pace for the whole time, just a little though, when she gets used to that replace her old pace and then pick up the new pace every other day. It takes time man. Oh by the way I have worked my way up to running 1.5 hours straight, I can't run a marathon yet because I am only 16 and I must go up mileage gradually. See you at boston.

This question is as much about relationships and life as it is about running. My experience is this:

1. Don't you take on the responsibility of training and/or coaching your gf. It will lead to arguments and relationship problems later. Trust me.

2. Hire a trainer, let her run alone with other friends her speed, or however she decides to train.

3. YOu be supportive and run with her at times FOR FUN and for togetherness time ONLY. Run at her speed.

Good LUck
