Look at the behavior of atheists.
Look at the behavior of people here who want prayer in the schools.

Tell me which group is the kind of person who might be capable of moving civilization forward.

If you insist that it's the prayer-supporters, you're either utterly delusional or lying through your teeth.

No it hasn't, but luckily (so far) we have a government that keeps certain fundamentalist groups from forcing their particular modes and goals of prayer on youths who don't want/need it.

No matter how they whine and whinge about "taking God out of the public schools," the fundamentalists know that any student(s) who want to pray on their own, can. Nobody has "stopped" prayer in schools.

What the fundamentalists really want is to force THEIR ways and thoughts and theology, such as it is, on non-Christian students. That would not be cool.

So at least as it stands now, prayer in schools probably helps those who want to pray and doesn't hurt those who don't want to be forced into it.

And speaking of prayer: let us all pray with all our hearts that Bush and his fundie toadies don't get their way and start to force fundamentalist prayer on public school students who aren't Christian.

Amen.

It messed me up pretty well. As I'm Jewish I spent an hour in prayer every day following rituals no on understood or cared about except for doing. Most people don't even know what prayer is for anymore.
Whenever I tried to get out of morning or afternoon prayer I was punished and even kicked out of school a few times. I had some serious arguments with my teachers who only wanted me to pray properly.

Yes, it enforces separation and favortism. America is a melting pot as are many other countries. If you were to be fair, you'd have to take time out to allow prayer from every religion any child in the classroom could be. But, that alone isolates any Atheist children. That leaves no time left for education. Religion should be left to the home and the church.

Which religion? Would it be acceptable you the school to conduct satanic prayer? Prayers to Isis?
You would not be able to exclude any prayer even the Atheists would be able to speak on the lack of god.
Do you want your child coming home and repeating a prayer to a deity you do not believe in?

proofread ya stuff before you post it!! lol but NO pray in schools has not hurt da development of da youth today. Dat is like da last thing a lil kid is thinkin about anyway when they go to school. They are just glad to get home from school so dat they can watch television, go to a friends house, get into something in da community, or something.

I think so, in places where it is done. You have more divisiveness between those who like it and those who do not. And it is always at least a little slanted toward one religion or another, usually Christianity. This gives the Christian kids the idea they are right and anyone who disagrees with them is wrong.

The fact is, the public school is not the place to learn about religion, in any form. If you want your children to learn religion in school, send them to a religious school. If you don't like paying taxes for the public school you don't use, support a voucher system and let everyone send their kids to the school they prefer.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America

and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands

That my friends, is not a democracy.

Maybe we should worry about that more than prayer verses non prayer.

If a child wants to pray they will pray. They should not be forced to, nor should they be forced not to!

In the answer above about cake and eating it too. Why does everybody just stare at the cake until it rots?

Why did they make the cake if they don't expect me to eat it. Somebody has some serious issues with waste in our society. LOL
