I agree with you Daniel. I am an Athiest, but I respect you as a Christian and find no need to waste my time trying to disprove your religion. You and I are both free to worship (or not worship) as we please.
But, on the other hand, there are plenty of Christians here who waste no time in telling the Athiests that we are all going to hell, that we will be judged, and that we are moronic or lacking love in our lives because we don't believe in God. I really do wish we could stop picking at eachother and try to learn something from one another.

The reason as far as i can tell, is that they are driven by an absolutism that makes this a yes or no answer to them. The Creative Allknowing Being (God, Great Spirit, Allah, Goddess, Eloheim, etc) either exsists or is does not. They are banking on that it does not... soooo that means anyone who says other wise must be wrong. To validate their belief system, and themselves, they must disprove the religious majority that says a Creative All knowing Being of some form exsists.
It is the same reason some Christians feel it is soooo important to declare other belief systems wrong. They have bought into an absolutism that does not allow for other ways of thinking.
I am glad that you are not one of those people that can not comprehend that there may be other ways.
Disclaimer: I do not believe that all Christians or Athiests are of this thought... i am making generalities for the sake of the question. I am sure there are exceptions to any rule.

There are very serious issues here. Most all atheists admit the possibility that their Creator actually exists and so they have to consider what they will say if, after they die, they meet Him. It may be a remote possibility to the atheist, but truly that possibility would be a fearsome one.
Atheist Bertram Russell answered that question to a reporter. Essentially he said that he would tell God that God had not provided enough evidence that He existed. Like Russell, other atheists are subconsciously working on a defense. People who believe in God weaken that defense. God could point to Matthew, for example, and say "Matthew came to believe without all that evidence you demand". The atheist has to be able to respond that Matthew has been proved to be mistaken.

Why are so many Christians trying to prove other religions wrong? Is it fair that Christians can do it, but atheists can not? All you argue for here is special rights for Christians, that atheists can not also enjoy.

Why do so many theists try to prove their religions right? People just can't stand it when other people don't agree with their beliefs. Most people feel the need to argue until their last breath that their point of view is right. It is very difficult for people to accept that other people might have a different point of view.

I agree with you completely.
I think the reason they try to prove Christianity wrong is because most people are not like you and I...
From what I have seen and experienced, Christians are among the least accepting people in the world. If you don't believe what we believe, you are 'going to hell'... I guess atheists just feel the need to try to prove us wrong just like many Christians want to prove that we are right... to convert us.

Why are so many mathematicians trying to prove that 1 + 1 doesn't equal 3? What a waste of time. People should be able to invent whatever mathematical rules they want.
You are free to believe whatever nonsense you want. Imaginary beings, imaginary saviors, imaginary miracles. But when your beliefs start to affect foreign policy, and politics, and place restrictions on society based on primitive laws written by goat herders 2,500 years ago, that is where I stake my objection.

Maybe because they are out to prove Christians are wrong or because deep down inside they are torn in the way they do or do not believe.

Yeah, I agree. I am not a Christian but I respect them. I think that it's OK if everyone believes something a little different!

I think there are offenders on both sides. Religious people pushing their religion on your (Jehovah Witnesses for example).
And lots of atheists who try to push their beliefs on you .. or try to make you look/feel stupid for your beliefs.
BOTH parties are IGNORANT and have way too much free time!
