Excellent choice for a defensive bullet in most any 9mm handgun. The Silvertip HP's were developed for used by law enforcement who were looking for a top of the line defensive/offensive 9mm round, with controlled, positive bullet expansion on impact, and above average knock down power. This Winchester round meets all three criteria. I sell a lot of these in my shop not only to law enforement and government agents, but I also send a few cases a month to private security contractors in Iraq who are working directly with the United States military. This round is known for its ability to feed thru just about any pistol or sub-machine gun due to its bullet design. Yes, It's expensive, but would you count your survival on anything but the best you can get ? I don't have to even think about it. I carry these in all my defense carry handguns, personally

I would go with the following in descending order: C, A, B C, first because at 7-15 yards, a heavier bullet is more important than a faster hot load such as B which might cause some problems for certain makes of pistols. If the range of engagement is longer, then I would want something that has more speed because the trajectory will be relatively flatter and so less windage and elevation adjustments. I place B last because hot loads can be a handful and does require you to practice regularly with it to shoot well and it will get quite expensive. And using it in some makes of pistols will void the warranty. A is actually good enough for most situations and if you do your part in training regularly, a 115gram hollow point well do the job.

Well, a 9mm 115gr FMJ round is standard target shoot and would not be good self-defense. WIth the HP that should be the equilizer and bring anyone down. They do sell mag-safe rounds that are great for home defense. They break-up and will jack up a human target but will not penerate walls. I'm not sure how much self-defending you plan on doing but I would keep the best in my weapon.

I like the Federal Hydra-Shok JHP, 135gr. I have used it for years and trust it. Now, I practice with a couple hundred rounds of milsurp fmj and the shoot a few mags of the Hydrashok just to be familiar with it.

Over the years, I have had more and more issues with Winchester ammo, my personal experience only.

You've got a great defensive bullet there, I carry silvertips in my 40sw, in my 9mm's I carry either corbons, gold dots, or IQ's. I havent tried the silvertips in 9mm yet, but I plan to. You arer correct, they are VERY expensive.

Just be sure to shoot a couple of boxes of Silvertips to make sure your Tok will feed them reliably. Some folks tell me their Toks are reliable only with FMJ.
