Do you think your cat loves you? Even if you don't think that animals can feel emotion, do you want to believe he or she feels a genuine affection for you?

Often we try and "humanize" our animals and we like to think that they "love" us the way we love them.

Most mammals are motivated by the same core emotions that humans are motivated by. They include fear, anger and hunger and the drive to protect their young and/or territory.

The leading theory is that domestic cats and dogs co-evolved with humans, that is why we get along so well. The cats we have domesticated as house pets have very little to worry about. They eat on a regular schedule, they don't have predators stalking them. They have been bred to be content and happy. They have been bred to respond to human affection and want to spend time with you. They have an uncanny ability to be able to respond to your emotions.

As a scientist, I will say that it is a by-product of the co-evolution of the two species.

As a pet owner, I will tell you that yes, my cat loves me.

Absolutely!! My cat of 13 years has always been quite aloof with me (I don't mind, I still pick her up and cuddle and kiss her!). When I went away to England for 3 weeks my husband reported an extreme change in her personality. She suddenly would follow him from room to room, constantly was 'chatting' to him and the dog, would jump on his chest the moment he laid down in bed, he told me she obviously missed me and my 'mothering' of her.

That was a few years ago, the older she gets, the more affectionate she gets. You can see she lights up when I walk in a room, you can see the happiness, hear the purrs when she's being petted.

There is no doubt my cat loves me!!

Ingested, it places cats (and persons) to sleep! Weirdly sufficient, some cats look resistant to nepetalactone, the chemical that triggers the reaction. they have not got any pastime in any respect interior the herb, on a similar time as others purely bypass nuts over it.

I feel all my cats love me, as they have never failed to come on my lap every single day. Especially when they purr and rub their faces against me, I feel how relaxed they are to be close to me.
As a matter of fact, they don't do these things to any other people they meet. They know who love and care about them, like human beings.

I like to think that Yoda loves me. He greets me at the door, comforts me when I'm sad, mad etc, and he always gives me a head-butt snuggle when I get home from work.

I think that animals can feel emotions and attachments, after all, they stay with us don't they?
