The Bible reflects the philosophy that mediums, psychics and wizards were a threat to a jealous God, who required his people to turn only to Him for help, guidance and answers. The "familiar" spirit refers to the spiritual guides used by mediums, psychics and wizards. The Witch of Endor spoke with her guide for answers that King Solomn asked. He was condemned for not asking God. The 66 books of the Bible is considered complete, but we know that the Coptic and Gnostic texts that referenced Jesus were not included, nor any of the other texts from splinter Christian groups that were rejected in AD 325 when the Bishops voted on which books to keep and which to toss.

there are several theories on it.

some people think of ghosts as spirits of the deceased. others believe encounters of ghosts are sort of "psychic replays" of events that occured in the past.

Psychics generally agree that ghosts are remnants of people who have died, often those who died violently or from some unexpected cause, where they did not realize they were dying. The "spirit" remaining here on earth has some unfinished business, ranging from an impending marriage (the haunted Toys 'R Us in Sunnyvale, CA) to revenge against their murderer (the haunted hotel in Cimarron, NM). Professional exorcists usually start by simple telling the ghost they are dead, suspended between two worlds, and commanding them to move on. Sometimes that is all it takes, but other times, stronger measures are needed, and sometimes nothing works. I don't have a single source - this is just what I've accumulated from watching TV and reading a little here or there. I once saw a newspaper article about two brothers from Crawfordsville, IN who work fulltime as exorcists, but they were quite elderly and are probably no longer with us. The Toys 'R Us item was a TV show, where they brought in "Kirilian" cameras to photography the image of the ghost. I was living nearby when I saw that, and it was disturbing, but not as disturbing as the show about the ghosts who appear around a graveyard in south Chicago - they jump out in front of cars and have caused accidents.

On a more positive note, I predict that within the next 50-100 years, medical science, in cooperation with these psychics, other "New Age" spiritualists, and after-death researchers, will come to a definitive explanation of ghosts and other phenomena associated with the death experience, such as the sudden weight loss, the long dark tunnel with light at the end, etc. At that time most religions will be shown to be incorrect as to their interpretation of what happens to people when they die. Namaste.

If you wanna know what the bible says about the matter go to Ecclesiastes 9:5, It states that the living know that they will die but the dead know nothing. Therefore the "ghost" or "spirit" is another one of Satan's tricks. If you want another example then check out the story in the bible about the Witch at Endor 1Samuel 28:4–25, Especially verse 14 when the bible says,"Saul Perceived that it was Samuel." Just know once you are dead then you are dead.
