Aside from the "pretend to take the high road" bit.... all the time.
Including that bit.... never.
I insult people to see how they respond. I insult people to bring their true personality to the surface, as only under duress will anyone show themselves....
That way I can judge whether they are worth my time or not.
But generally I deliberately take the moral low-ground as it helps lower their guard.
