The school vocal group seems to sing entirely christian songs... really really annoying ones I've never even heard of. One constists of saying "Moses" Over and over, and over, in different pitches. Anyway, is it 'leeeeegal' for the teacher to have the students sing entirely christian songs? The vocal group isn't made up of only Christians..either.

It's not that they're "Wholesome". The songs COULD say.. "Please rape all women of the village, for christ commands it" Of course they don't, but please try to keep up with what I'm actually asking. Maybe the secular students would like to take a singing class without having to praise a god they don't believe in? I don't go to math class with the hopes of praising Allah.

Praise is from the heart, so how could someone who doesn't choose to believe in God be able to praise Him? The songs are also hiiiiiisssstory, as EVERY ancient text (religious and otherwise) mentions many of the same things the Bible does.

Get a grip. Singing a song you deem Christian may not be what you think it is, and it isn't going to hurt you.

I wouldn't think having students sing SOME religious music is against the law. If you eliminate Christian music you're walking away from a sizable chunk of the choral repertoire. As a conductor once told me (and the rest of a 120-member chorus of various creeds), "You don't have to believe it - just act like you do." The singers can think of it as acting.

But to have no secular music, no music of another religion... that could be against the law. Ditto if the choir is made to perform at a religious event.

I'm sure they can opt out if they wanted to.....the students, that is.

What exactly is wrong with singing wholesome songs in a public school?

If the students pick the songs it's legal.

Sounds like a republican town. No, it is not 'leeeeegal' for teachers to force religion on students in any way. Well, it's not ethical, anyway... and any GOOD school would fire the teacher if they knew about it. And referring to your last question, I don't think they will.

I don't know if it's legal but it's bad taste for sure...
