my relation went to british embassy in sri lanka to get visa and he gave his passport to them, they said 'your result will be released on fri day' so how do i check it online?-by giving his passport number or his name. is there any special websites for that? please tel me. remember its a british embassy in sri lanka

Approval of visas are not usually published online. You have to wait for the passport to know if the visa was granted.

If you submitted all the requirements being asked, honest filling up the application form and paid the fees then you are sure of getting visa. Other way of course is call the Embassy.

For Security reasons, YOU CAN'T! It's easier to find somebody's bank account details than to get info from an Embassy LOL

I think (from many many applications for a bunch of visas and a bunch of countries) there is no way to check these things, you just have to be patient and wait.
