I have been a Jesus lover all of my life, but when I use Biblegateway and first read NIV and then the Message, the Message always blesses me. I know it is a loose translation but put together with the NIV, it makes more sense to my heart like in the well known Psalm 23
1-3 God, my shepherd! I don't need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.

4 Even when the way goes through
Death Valley,
I'm not afraid
when you walk at my side.
Your trusty shepherd's crook
makes me feel secure.

5 You serve me a six-course dinner
right in front of my enemies.
You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.

6 Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life.
I'm back home in the house of God
for the rest of my life.
Blessings !!

Not until now. I like the way they have phrased it so that those not familiar with the language and metaphors of the time can understand the message and take comfort in it.

God's blessings to you my sister in Christ.

I can discuss every issue you have with scripture and prove you do not understand what you have read if you've read it at all. God does hate and He has wrath. So what? And as for the differences that you call contradictions in the Old and New Testament, there is none. The word Testament means Covenant. They are both different covenants but they do not contradict each other. I don't have time or space here to prove to you that you are ignorant of the scriptures. I've been teaching and studying scripture probably longer than you've been on this earth.

I use many different versions of the Bible. I mostly use the KJV or The NKJV, one of my favorite for difficult verses is the NLT. The NIV is a good study version. There is nothing wrong with the message version. The important thing is that you are reading the Bible. God has many ways of speaking to us, just listen.

Psalm 23 is use a lot at funerals. But it not a Psalm for the Dead but for Living. This Psalm talks about GOD'S Grace for living. Grace that provides, protect, renew and replenishes.

It is a great Psalm

I find it amusing and ironic that the passage is basically referring to followers as sheep. After all sheep follow blindly without any deductive reasoning or consideration. This passage basically insults Christians by calling them sheep.

But if you like to be compared to a mindless sheep, blindly following an imaginary invisible man, then good luck to you. BAAA!

It is one of the most comforting and reassuring psalms to help us get through our difficulties in life.

Yes, it is very good. I also like Young's Literal translation.
