Georgia Tech does not have a really high crime rate mainly due in part because of where it is located. I wouldn't be worried about it. It isn't in a part of Atlanta that is frequented by anyone but students. And downtown isn't that bad, you can pretty much tell where you do and do not want to be by just looking around. The only places where I would advise you not to go would be College Park (near the airport), some parts of the Underground (you'll go at least once so you'll just have to see for yourself), Eastlake (even though it has gotten a little better), and the SWATS a.k.a Southwest Atlanta. Im pretty sure you would have no reason to go to these places frequently (if ever) so you should be fine.

And as with any big city try and refrain from being out late downtown. If you like club hopping go to Buckhead. Other than that enjoy yourself as ATL is an excellent place to live.

You asked this same exact question yesterday - but here is my exact same response as yesterday (you might want to check the responses you got yesterday!):

Atlanta's crime is just like living in any big city and actually there are other cities in the US alot worse than Atlanta. I think you should be okay by Georgia Tech. Just be smart with how you handle yourself. Don't go walking all over town at night by yourself. Make sure your locks work on your doors & windows where you live. If you are feeling uncomfortable or frightened in your surroundings leave. Be aware of your surroundings when you are out places. Most of the time you can prevent being a victim of crime by taking those simple steps.

I lived in GA for 5 years and had no trouble. When you go, talk to people who've been there for a while to get advice on which places (if any) to avoid. Also, avoid staying out really late (say, 2 AM) as much as possible. In all the places I've lived, I usually hear about the worst crime occurring really late at night.

Dude, I told you yesterday you have nothing to worry about. Tech has a HUGE enrollment and they haven't had a violent crime there, especially on campus, in like forever.

Who the heck is giving you all this misinformation and scaring you to death?

its crime rates are super high if you dont believe me ask my freind rob. he used to go there be4 he quit. he told me this one time he is just walking to class and all of the sudden this theif guy was like "Hey i'm going to steal your stuff pretty soon". and then rob say's "By soon, you mean never". Then rob starts beating them up bad and goes and tells a policeman about what happened. Out of nowhere the police man is pointing his gun at rob. (causing rob to be serisoly freaked out) Then all of the sudden the theif guy comes back to life and forms into the boss thief. and then the plice man and teh theif are closing in on rob but luckily out of nowhere they both crapped their pants and got super embarrased and had to leave.
