I have moved to new zealand about 4 years ago from Australia. Although I love new zealand more than oz, and I find the people very friendly I can't help that notice that some of new zealanders are very strange, lol
That's strange in a funny good way though! The other day I went into work and the desk chick was laying on he floor looking up at the ceiling talk to it about printers! When I said "OI" she quickly got up and denied the whole thing thoroughout the day!, lol.
Then I went to pick my daughter up from school and there was this child (about 11 years old) standing in the gardern with her shoes off in the mulch (on a cold day!) and just her socks on, nodding up at a tree aprovingly!,
And if that aint weird enough I got home to find that my next door neighnores children were eating the grass off the front lawn!,lol
I find this hiliarious! Has anybody ever encounted some weird kiwis!

You've merely witnessed a Chain-Mariwhuaka. We do it all the time. People lying on their backs, people standing in mud, and people eating grass. It is held as an orchestrated chain of events specifically to mess with the minds of people who have recently arrived here, and considered a great tradition of honour and fun.
I have just come back from one myself. My part was to sit in a tree with a bicycle and make the kind of noises the barking fish make when they fly across the moonlit sky in a clear december night.
Didn't see that, huh? Too fascinated by the grass eaters? Oh well, never mind. I did it for the sake of it.

Does my mum count??? hahaha she's a kiwi Im an Aussie, spent a lot of time growing up there - we spend hours on a treasure hunt for a 'special' New Zealand avocado my uncle set up for us even though we hated avo's as kids. My uncle made it seem so cool and difficult. Turned out to be a green fizzy drink each. But he did it coz there was an important family meeting where we would have been underfoot, so rather than sending us to another room he did that. The next door neighbour made pet rocks, the lady on the next corner had a yard full (and I mean FULL) of garden gnomes. So many little things it's hard to remember.
New Zealand is more accepting and easy going than Australia if you can believe it, and Im from a country town in Oz
My grandparents are from a smaller country town in NZ, not that far from Tahini...Palmerston Sth.

That's what I love about NZ, no judgemental people and no funny looks when something is unconventional.
When I first arrived here, I saw a teenager walk around in bare socks in the street, which I found quite shocking but my partner (a kiwi) told me it's normal. Same thing when seeing teenagers walking in a mall barefoot or at the supermarket in pyjamas. This would be unheard of where I come from lol. I just don't pay attention anymore now, it's become part of everyday life :)

My dear, there are many strange people all over the world, only that you havn't seen them. I am from India and have great respect for Australians and New Zealanders. These people are very civilized and respect others. If a small percentage of people behave in a strange manner it doesn't speak of the whole country. In any case such people are to be ignored or if the case is serious they need either our sympathy or the medical attention.

well, if the kids liked the grass, invite them to graze in a field perhaps they will love to chew the cud. Just watch out where they lay the kiddypatties lol

Hahaha I find that hilarious too! I think that could just be Nelson for you lol. Nelson's always been a bit of a 'hippy' town. Too much weed I think! Haha.

Don't you think we would find, what you or I would consider, weird behavior wherever we happened to be - and that includes within our own households?
