People with allergies?

I'm allergic to pet dander, but I need a dog to protect my house from the evil cats who invade our backyard at night and leave nasty surprises in the morning.

The length of the hair has nothing to do with it. Dander is what most people are allergic to. There is a product... Out Allergy Relief, that you wipe your pet down with once a week and is available for cats and dogs. If your local pet store does not have it, ask them to order it for you.

Possibly...dandruff from their skin is a major cause of allergies though. You can keep this down by bathing the dog maybe once a month to keep the skin in good shape. Bathing any more often may dry out the skin and make it worse.
If you get a so-called "hypoallergenic" breed, those DO shed hair, they just shed a little bit throughout the year and it tends to remain tangled up instead of falling off everywhere. It would be best to keep the hair short and you have to use a comb to prevent matting.

Well, there's no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog...but there are some breeds better suited than others for those with allergies.

If it is the company of a dog that you want there are a number of dogs that will suit you.

But if all you want is to rid your house of cats, I would suggest you find a different alternative.

short haired dogs are the worst due to the hair they shed. the best dogs for allergy sufferers are dogs that dont shed any hair such as westies, scoties ect.

Cats are not evil, they are just animals, they have no idea you dislike them so much and that you want them off your property.
