Yes, a purebred Malamute can have front and rear dew-claws. Responsible breeders usually have the dew-claws removed at 3-4 days of age. You can have them removed when you spay her.

Since your dog's breeder did not remove the dewclaws, am I correct in assuming she also did not have OFA or PennHip scores on the parents?

they can have dew claws on the hind feet and still be purebreed. Look on the akc.org site and look up the breed standard. I think that a good breeder would have had them removed from the puppie when it was 3 to 5 days old. but please look up the standard. and also look on the internet for Malamute breeder and ask them also.

Given the choice, I'd have them removed. I've had several dogs who have ripped their dew claws while playing and it's not only very bloody, it's painful. Then there's the healing process - to me it makes sense to have it done if the puppy is going to be under anesthetic anyway.

All it means is that your breeder didn't remove them when the pup was a few days old. They should have been removed. Your vet doesn't sound to swift either if he doesn't know about back dew claws and the proper time they should have been removed. I has nothing to do with the pup not being a pure bred pup.

some time back due claws do pop up in breeds that dont normaly have them.
so if malamutes arnt ment to have them and yours does, it doesnt mean its not a pure breed. (uk breed standard does not mention about it.)

Some dogs have them and some don't...a few breeds are required to have back double dewclaws. It doesn't prove she's mixed or not. Do you have a picture?
