If you want a active but small dog a Jack Russell is the dog for you. But if u want a big active dog, a Border Collie, Labrador or a Retriver is best. Labradors and Retrivers goes well with children and are not too hard to train. You must walk an active dog everyday.
My suggestions:
Beagle, Labrador, Retriver, Germen Shepard or Jack Russell. Keep in mind Jack Russells for not every good with children because they are very rough, you will be surprised how rough they are.

If you have a small garden despite the fact your near a large park, consider the size of the dog and I would suggest you take a smaller breed. You can also train them well and they are quick to learn, plus you can also take them for walks in the park. But the final decision obviously lay with you. All the best.

Any dog is easy to train provided the humans know what they are doing.
A dog, any dog, any breed will always think like a dog. The best way to learn is through positive reinforcement, therefore from the humans perspective it is the best way to train.
So the real question is how to train a dog to live most harmoniously in the lifestyle that you choose.
There are many answers available, libraries, web and other people who have successfully trained well socialized and child friendly dogs.
Once you have that figured out you can do the best for your new dog and enjoy many happy years together. No matter what breed or Heinz57 that you choose.
It is best all around if you learn this before getting the dog. Have fun.

I have a sheltie so you know I would say that. A black or gold lab they are great with kids, or a golden retriever ... all dogs are easy to train if you know what your doing and you keep training the same way continuity is the key with training . A Jack Russel loves to play they are smart they love kids and kids love them but so are the labs and retrievers.. good luck what ever dog you get make sure you get tons of photos of them playing with you and the kids so the kids have photos when they are older and the dog is gone. Good luck hope you can email me with what you choose.
Ops I forgot one beagle someone said it already beagles love alot they have very high energy lol a crack dog lol but full of love lol and smart real smart

An english toy terrier might do the trick they only need 20-40mins of exercise they are also pretty good with kids this website might provide you with further information. Any dog can be good for you with the proper training.
Hey for the person who gave me a thumbs down, don't you ever watch it's me or the dog?

What are the childrens ages...be careful with too small or too large of dog. How active or inactive is your family? How much grooming are you willing to do or pay to have done? You need to think of your family's wants/needs and lifestyle and find a match that works for you. Please research carefully.
Here is a 'breed selector' which may help narrow it down:

I have a 9 month old beagle and he is just perfect for my 4 year old daughter. He is the sweetest dog ever.
He doesn't mind when my daughter pulls on his ears, pulls on his tail or just hug him so tightly. You know how children are. They are very intelligent too.
