Your faith, belief or non belief should be your decision.
Parents should give information and guidance but not shove it down your throat.
Ultimately if you only go to church, believe or worship because your parents tell you to - then it is hollow with no substance and you are not true to the faith.
Faith has to come from you and your knowledge and acceptance.

My parents were Christian, I ceased to believe in their religion at age 13 but was forced to continue attending until I got older because my father deemed it it be a phase I was going through. Eventually, he accepted that I did not wish to be a Christian.
Parents feel they are doing the right thing by trying to teach and encourage their child to take up their own angle on religion, but the decision to reject or adapt that religion is ultimately the decision of that person themselves. I did not bring my childern up in a religion at all, and they have few opinions on the subject, because they were not forced to make a decision and to justify that decision to someone else of an opposing point of view.
What does offend me greatly, is the increasing teaching of fundamentalist Christianity in State Schools, especially to very young children, without the knowledge of the parents or contrary to the parents' wishes. That is illegal and immoral and should be stopped right now.

It's almost always up to the parents. I just saw a video on youtube, where they interviewed an atheist 16 year old girl, and the reporter, John Stossel, asked her why she didn't believe in God... and do you know what she said? "Because I was born that way."
It's okay with me if parents want to raise their child in a church, but they should give their children exposure to lots of different choices, and help them think critically about whatever their decision is, and most importantly, allow their child to leave church if he or she decides to.

What do you think?
I thnik your parents probably influence you and then when you get old enough, you make your own decision.
Parents take you to church (or not) and you choose.
I doubt very seriously that parents would take little kids to all kinds of churches. If I were a parent, I would not to to Muslim churches, Buddhist, Latter Day Saints, JW, etc. I'd take the, to the church I loved. Then when they got older, if they are interested in something else, they can pursue it.
One of my best friends' sons is agnostic.
His decicision.....

Your parents are obviously going to indoctrinate you into their religion when you are a child. When you become old enough to understand, choose your own religion or no religion.

Ultimately it is our own decision. Your parents can guide you when you are young but they cannot force you to stick with it. That is only between you and God or whatever you happen to believe.

the decision lies ultimately with you, but your parents can feed whatever they want (in terms of religion) down your throat until you're 18, 21, or whatever.

It's totally incomprehensible to me that any genuinely held religious beliefs or non beliefs could be decided by someone else, even a parent.
