I've had my tattoo on my foot for 2 years, its one i designed myself (although its quite simple) it's really personal to me as it represents my grandparents who died within months of each other.

Last month my friend had the exact same tattoo on her wrist.

Am i right to be annoyed?

I know i can't do anything about it, but its still annoyed me

she knew what the design stood for, we've known each other since we were five and she was a bit support after i'd lost my 3 grandparents

H*LL YEAH U HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE ANNOYED! I’d be down right p*ssed off girl!

All of my tatt’s are symbolic, and that is something VERY personal. I NEVER get a tatt “off the shelf”, because of this reason!

I’m confused as to how the tatt shop kept “your” design! That’s just NOT COOL!!! I’d be b*tching at them BIG TIME!!! They have no rights to “your” design.

OF COURSE your tatt is really personal to you! People that design their own tatt is because it represents something very important in their life. The majority of mine are for my dogs, they are my KIDS! They are all symbolic to each one. If I saw “MY” tatt on someone, I’D BE HEADED FOR THE TATT SHOP!!! Fortunately I don’t have to worry about that because of the artist that did mine is no longer doing tatt’s. My next one is in memory of my father and I WILL WALK OUT OF THERE WITH “MY” DESIGN!

I definitely think it was disrespectful of your friend to get the same tatt as yours. She should of AT LEAST had the common courtesy to ask you first, since she liked it so much. She ALSO should have respected “your” design and had changes made so it was not identical!

I’M VERY SORRY THIS HAS HAPPENED TO YOU!!! You paid tribute to your grandparents with your designed tatt. Is there anything that you can have added to it to make it “your” original? I know it’s not fair that you would have to make these changes, but at this point, it is the best way to keep it original.

BE SURE to get your design from the tatt shop this time! I’d do some checking around with other tatt shops to see what their policy is on keeping tatt’s that are not designed by them. I look at it as you have all copyrights to “your” design....and the tatt shop owes you! BEST OF LUCK HON!

p.s. If I remember I'll ask my bf about the copyright laws. His best friend's cousin did mine. He also knows other artists that design tatt's and sell them to the shops.

All my tattoos on my body have been designed by me and each has its own meaning. I designed my own cause I didnt want anyone else to get what I got. Every design was taken into the shop, put on my body, then all traces of the design were destroyed. How ever with that said, if the design is simplistic, then describing what I got to an artist or drawing it could be done.

Lets face it, we like to show our ink so there for we run the risk of losing originality. If she is truly your friend, and got the design, then take it as a compliment. Now if it was in the same location as yours and undoubtedly identical, then I would have a problem.

Yes! Definitely! I would be so annoyed - my tattoos are also original designs so if a friend copied them I'd be really upset. If it was just some flash off the tattoo shop wall then that's different (but still a bit annoying).

They say that imitation is the highest form of flattery but I think it gets to the stage where your mate should be getting an identity of their own - not stealing yours. They could at least have told you what they were planning before getting it done!

It is annoying and you have every right to be, it sounds like something she may not have thought through at all.
You really should ask her for her reasoning and go from there, it may be she had actual good intentions rather than just doing something insensitive. Figure that out first and then see how you feel. It doesn't change that it was a bad idea of hers but the reason behind it may help you feel better (or not, I'm crossing my fingers for yes though)

I would be very upset about that. Tattoos are meant to be personal to a person. Unless of course you picked a design off a wall then you deserve what you get.
I don't know that anything can be done about it now, but I'd still let them know it irritated you a lot.
They might have had a good reason though, like they wanted to support you.

I would feel flattered. You have deisgned a piece af artwork, and it must have been something special for her to want to use it. Just think, there are 2 memorials to your late Grandparents, not just the one now.

You would be chuffed right if a leading painter wanted to use your design to show in a gallery. More memorials to your Grandparents.

Be happy, you may have a carreer in tattoo design, if someone wants to use your work. Do more, earn money from your flash design.

I would Be FURIOUS! The whole point of tattoos is for them to be personal to you! And the fact that it meant so much to you becasue it was for your grandparents! I would tell her how annoyed you are.. she probly didnt realise how big a deal it is and it's obvisouly too late to do anything now! but dont be horrible and start getting huffy etc..just explain to her how upset you are and maybe she'll feel bad and do something nice 4 u =] lol

i understand why youre annoyed and id probably be the same..tatoos are personal and a way to be unique and that design was even more special to you...however you cant do anything about it now so jus try to look at is as a sign of how much she admires you and wants to be like you.it doesnt take anything away from how personal the tattoo is to you or what it means..xx

That is so wrong i would be so pi**ed off with this " so called friend" But on another look she probly wants to be like you which is a bit weird, You should tell her what she did was wrong that the tattoo repersents your grandparents and tell her to go get a different tattoo over it, If she is a good friend she will

You have every right to be annoyed. That person doesn't seem like much of a friend at all, confront her about it, ask her why the hell she did that, make her feel guilty for stealing your design.
