what strength of line for a 40 or 60 lb fish??

for fish like that you will be fine. I kow many people who catfish with 2-4 lb. test for the thrill of it and catch 20+ lb. catfish.

A 10 to 1 ratio should be sufficient for any fishing unless you really like to "Bulldog" a fish in and, that's not fishing.

We fish everything from Salmon to steel head and Walleyes on the Great Lakes and never go about a 20 pounds test line and that's for the constant pressure of trolling boards.
