Im pretty sure that I have depression and I want to get help but I dont know where to start. Some of my symptoms are thoughts of suicide, loss of interest in things that once made me satisfied/happy, loss of focus, hopeless, sadness at times and I usually want to be alone. I abused drugs when I was 17 and 18 and thats when I started feeling depressed. Im 20 now and ive been sober for over 2 years. Im just hopeing theres help out there for me.

Don't worry, you'll be alright. I used to be involved in drugs when I was younger too, I understand where you're coming from. If you find yourself thinking about hurting yourself or thinking about how you would do it, you should speak with someone who will listen to you and try and help. You can vist http://suicidehotlines.com/ for a local number.

I want to recommend that you regularly exercise. People should perform 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times a week. But some exercise is better than none. After you exercise you’ll feel like you’re on an antidepressant, with no side-effects. So if you feel bad, try doing some push-ups, crunches, or go for a jog.

Also see about mental healthcare professionals in your area, or at least a counselor in your area. Everyone needs someone to confide in.

Just remember that the way you feel now is not going to last. You'll be okay.

Get a dog, not a little pip squeak but a real dog like a golden retriever or lab.. Treat him like a child. What you get back will be priceless and you will feel that you have a new purpose.

Im not qualified to really answer your question but i would point out that everyone that I have ever known has felt the way you are feeling at one time or the other including myself. Im not sure if those feeling qualify you as being clinically depressed but try to get some kind of help from a professional.

How you do this in this country that has almost no access to mental health unless you are wealthy is another question you should ask on here.

If you're really feeling down, and you live in the US, call this number: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). It is the suicide prevention hotline, and they can advise you where to go from there. I've had depression and been hospitalized too, so I know what you're going through... and I hope you feel better soon! *hugs*

Many states offer free mental health couselling, after an evaluation shows that you do have a mental health problem... it's pretty simple, you just go in and talk to someone, and they start the approval process. Call that number, though.

go to the clinic and ask(or call) the receptionist where the mental health department is, and ask to make an apointment with a psycologist. im 15, have the same thoughts as you and see a psycologist also. you need to talk to a professional and see what is wrong with you instead of sitting around wondering if you have depression!! it may seem weird at first but...i guess it helps

Go to therapy. They'll properly diagnose you and give you the right medication. just remember you are not alone with this. Try talking to a family member or friend about your feelings.
