If you haven't tried it (and actually waited to see the adult height) then don't tell me it doesn't work. I want to know whether or not it was correct for those who tried it.
Supposedly you check the child's height when they turn 2 and then double it to get their adult height. It was right on for my sister and I both (my sis was 35.5" tall at 2 and my mom thought no way would she grow to be that tall...she is now 5'11"!)

I was just thinking about this becuase at my girl's 18 month check-up, she measured 34" which means she'll be at least 5'8" and she still has 6 months to grow.

We did it with our kids and it seems pretty accurate... for us.

Doubling our boys' two-year-old heights came out to 6' 4 and 6' 5" and today the older one is 17 years old and 6' 4" (we're pretty sure he's done growing, we're an early maturing family) and the younger is 14 and is already 5' 11" so he may hit 6' 5".

I'm 5' 8" and our daughter's two-year-old measurement doubled has her at 5' 8" as well. She's 10 but already 4'11" tall, we expect her to hit the predicted height.

Keep in mind, though, that nutrition and health can effect growth rates. If a child has good nutrition and little or no illness as a toddler s/he may be at his/her genetic maximum for his/her age, then later have an illness or eat too much junk food and never double that height because their nutrition wasn't quite there. This can be especially true for pre-teen and teenage girls who reduce calories for fashion-thinness, they diet and even fast before they are done growing, so their growth is stunted. Many girls never reach their genetic potential height for this reason.

It can go the other way, too, picky toddlers who won't eat or those who have early childhood illnesses may be undersized as toddlers, but learn to eat better or become more healthy in childhood and teen years, and more than double their toddler height.

Everything depends on the child! My son was on steroids from 6 mo until three and didn't grow a whole lot. Since then he has grown a great deal, almost catching back up to normal. You can't take a snap shot of the human body and make determinations for life!

As for results: I am 5'7", I should have been 5'4" just like all the girls in my family. My cousin should have been 6'3" he is 5'10". Never even heard of it working until now!

RE:
Have you tried the old "double a 2 year old's height" thing?

What Tiffany / Rebecca and the first poster said. Why would you teach your child that then come ask why she's embarrassing? No, my 4 year old does not say embarrassing things. Everybody who's child does, is around bad influences, (Like you, teaching a 2 year old the word vagina, wtf is wrong with you) but if you're ok with that, whatever. I'll probably get a low rating for you being a closed minded idiot and disagreeing with peoples right answers vs your subpar parenting, but whatever.

Not yet as kids aren't old enough, but they (boy and girl) are supposed to be over 180cm or 5'9'' which is tall! I think we are raising generations of basketball players!

Well, I've known at least 4 people who tried it, and it hasn't been right yet! According to mine, I was supposed to be at least 5'10", and I've ended up being 5'7", lol!
I guess sometimes it does work, but in my personal experience it hasn't yet.

its not true lol. I was only supposed to be 5 foot even, i'm 5'6. My sister was supposed to be 5'11 as well, but she;s 5'5. My brother was only supposed to be 5'6, well he's 15 years old and is 6 foot tall, my littlest sister is only 13 and not even 5 foot, she's supposed to be 5'6. So my mom lost fate in that lol.

I have never heard of that, i thought you added mums height to daddy height and did some weird calculation and go the height. But your way seams much more simple...if i ever conceive again and i will certainly try it on baby when they are 2.

I did it when my son was about two, and he would be about as tall as my husband, my FIL, and my brother - they're all about the same height. But who knows!

I remember doing this with our two, forty years ago. Son predicted to be 5'8" and is now 6'0, daughter predicted to be 5'6" - and is!
