Why is Leslie such a popular name for Canadian men?

I think in the US more women than men are named Leslie. Are Canadians honouring a famous Leslie?

Easy. Same reason there are more Nigels, Liams and Ians in Canada than there are in the USA: Those are British names and Canada is fairly influenced by British culture. The name Leslie is common in Britain as well.

Just like in Canada, you dont see as many Randys or Billy-Rays as you do in the U.S.

I think it's a name more older men have. And my guess is it was popular in England, and since there are a lot of British ex-pats in Canada, the name Leslie came with them.

Leslie was a common male name in Britain for many years. It probably follows family tradition.

Lynn is also a male name in Britain, leading to great confusion here, where it is usually a female name.

As a Canadian I only know of one male Leslie, and he is famous. Funnyman Leslie Neilson, actor in Men With Brooms.

So if you know more, then maybe it's in your part of Canada, and maybe your hypothesis is correct.

i believe leslie was popular for men in the US until about the 1950's, and then it became more common as a woman's name.

if i were having a girl i would have named her lesley, but i am having a boy. his name will be Ian.

I really don't think so. I don't know any men named Leslie and have never met one and I have been in Canada for 31yrs

the female Border Collie in "Babe" became named Fly. It became an extremely regular movie, and various human beings have been given Border Collies because of the fact of it. I rather have heard it many cases in Border Collie boards, additionally it rather is a short basic a million syllable call. something canines p.c.. up on quickly.
