I had an IUD ('mirena' brand) inserted at the beginning of the year, 2nd march. So far so good. Took 30 sec's to put in, no pain whatsoever, costs heaps less than the pill and lasts for 3-5 yrs! Periods have gotten a couple of days longer but heaps lighter. I get about 2 days of bleeding and 3-5days of very light spotting and only very minor cramps on day 1-2 (and by minor, I mean I don't even have to take a panadol or anything). Overall, the best decision i ever made about birth control. We don't want anymore kids (well I want one more but hubby doesn't so we're stopping) but don't want hubby to get the snip and I'm not getting my tubes tied, so best option for us bar none! My MIL has one now for about 2 yrs and she hasn't had a period since she got hers in and same as me, no noticeable side effects at all.
I would happily recommend an IUD to anyone considering it. No more remembering to take the pill and being scared of getting pregnant if you do forget ( we have two 'pill' children!!)

But there are side effects that are very rare like misplacement, rupturing of uterus/cervix when it gets put in, and on very very rare occasions, pregnancy resulting in termination/d&c. But every birth control has side effects and after trying depo, pill, rod in arm etc... this has worked the best for me.

Good luck. I would recommend asking your doctor how many they have done before/experience in insertion as my first doctor didn't get it in right but then I went to a 60 something male gyno and he was the absolute best. So quick and painless, no problems!

They are also great when inbetween kids as when you want to try for the next one, it just gets taken out and you can get preggo as of the next month. MIL got pregnant twice the month after having it removed (on purpose!!). Not like the pill that takes ages to leave your system!

You're presenting as evidence a very cut down piece of a larger article that was out a few weeks ago. To begin with, this isn't the Bush administration suggesting this change, but the Department of Health and Human Services. Now, yeah, this department operates under the Bush Administration, but there is absolutely no indication that Bush said, "Hey! Ya'll oughta do this." This is a draft regulation, circulated to those who would have a say in it for feedback and input. This is what you are supposed to do. And, the proposal, at its core, really only defines certain states of pregnancy in a different way. That's all. Man, it doesn't take much to get you folks spun up does it? And what's with the '$'? Is there some financial windfall for the Bush administration here or are you just making an unsubstantiated and equally ignorant statement?
