I don't mind the idea at all, especially if it's a democratic world and all the countries who join it do so willingly, instead of being forced into it. That said, a lot of people see this as the New World Order, and strongly disagree with the idea.

You do know that many Republicans and Democrats are planning the whole North American Union idea right? A world without borders wouldn't work because everywhere in the world there's a border. Countries have borders and these countries enjoy their freedom. Each country has its own identity and if countries didn't have borders, this might create a super identity (which could lead to the disappearance of many cultures). I would favor a world with tolerance for one another no matter the skin color, religion or sexual orientation/gender. Let people practice their freedoms, provided that they don't hurt other people in doing so (and therefore other people's right to freedom). I personally think it's better to go for a world with tolerance. As an American with Rapa Nui (Easter Island) blood from my mother, I wouldn't like to see the Rapa Nui culture (or any other culture in that case) be replaced or modified. That's what makes one country or religion or culture different from others: they're unique. Thanks!

The Big Boys erased the borders a long time ago. There are now five formal economic regions of the world. Bush recently signed an agreement to erased the borders between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada and formed the SPP, a new form of government. Here is SPP's official website:
http://spp.gov/
Also, the "border" between Mexico and the U.S. will be an electronic speed bump, already contracted out. King Carlos of Spain got the lease on the new gigantic super highway that will run straight up the middle of the continent, connecting all three nations. The Mexicans got part of Kansas as a staging area for their highway maintenance contracts of the new highway system.
Here is an excellent documentary of the new North American Union. Only the bigots are still living with feeble-minded nationalistic notions of borders:

It would be nice but at the moment I don't think some of us are ready for it.
Europe seems to be going about it with the EU. Although I'd be a little scared if the UK and Iran were both part of the EU because under EU agreements the citizens of EU countries can easily move around from country to country without needing visas and such.

A world without borders...
controlled by corporations and each person cutting eachother's wages with pure competition. I'm not saying that it isn't right.. but if you are talking about the entire world living together equally, you will most assuredly have a digression. A society is as good as it's lowest civilized form.

I was talking about this with my boyfriend last night, and we were saying how if the world stopped trying so hard to battle, go against, and stop the progress of each other nation, we could progress so much more in unity. I don't know if that can happen, though, I think it's doubtful because of human nature.

First you have to homogenize the world so that there would be no real area "preference" (a catalyst for overcrowding). Meaning, no pretty places, all the same benefits, all the same costs. If you can somehow make that work in the next billion years, then sure.

It would make the whole crossing the border illegally point mute, wouldn't it? Yea, I'm sure I can think of some people that would love to get those pesky borders out of their way but sorry, Americans in general, are not in that group.

Are you nuts?! A world without borders is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Do you know how much the crime rate would go up? Do you know how hard it would be to catch criminals? Do you know how hard it would be to find work and support your family? To quote Dirty Martini: That idea is so lame it needs a walker. You're such a dreamer, but I'm not a believer.
