I believe in God, I read the Bible, but I don't go around telling people they're going to hell because of the paths they have taken in their life. People make mistakes, most learn from experiences they've gone through..

I'm not trying to dis Christians in any way, as my family are religious Christians.. I just don't think it's "Christianlike" for them to condemn an individual they know nothing about.

I always say "Be nice to everyone you meet, for they may be fighting a battle of which you know nothing about." What about all the men and women in jail? Do they not deserve a second chance?

Why is it "Their WAY" or the highway? Isn't believing in God enough?

I think you answered your own question CG *smile*. "...they may be fighting a battle of which you know nothing about." The fact that they are using a "fear appeal" (trying to scare you into believing what they believe) is a pretty good indication that they have their own issues with fear. If I had to guess, in at least some cases, the fear they are dealing with is their own fear of hell. Condemning someone to hell for any behavior fails to recognize a basic value of their religion...by GRACE not by WORKS are you saved and probably indicates that they are still struggling to accept that they can't "buy" their way into heaven (or out of hell) through their own actions! Scary way to live wouldn't you think?

I'm speaking from some experience here because I watched both my parents struggle for over 30 years with their own fears. Mom was raised Baptist and dad was raised Catholic and both had plenty of "hellfire and damnation" thrown at them from an early age...that kind of conditioning is hard to put aside completely!

I have no doubt that some people will choose not to accept God's invitation to his eternal kingdom but I have no desire (nor the ability) to manage his guest list OR decide what will happen to those that don't accept the invitation...yikes, I have a hard enough time managing the RSVPs for my son's birthday party and I only invited the 25 kids in his kindergarten class...I couldn't even begin to keep track of the entire population of my city (about 1/4 million) let alone the 6 billion people alive today...thanks but no thanks, that's God's job and I'll leave it to his expertise!

If they really knew their Bible, they would realise that what they say is based on false teaching.
"Hell" is not a place of torment for souls, as wrongfully taught, but is simply mans's grave.
In the Bible, it has its Greek name, Hades.
And it is only TEMPORARY.
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire

To go into a ' lake of fire' would certainly indicate destruction, so death and the grave would exist no more. It confirms God's promise';
(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

No death so no more graves.

So when we go to hell, we go to our graves...

And even these are not permanent.

(Revelation 20:12-13) And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. But another scroll was opened; it is the scroll of life. And the dead were judged out of those things written in the scrolls according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Ha′des gave up those dead in them, and they were judged individually according to their deeds.

WE are not being judged on our former lifes mistakes because these have been paid for with our death

(Romans 6:23) For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.

Wages are full payment

We will be judged on how we react to waking up in God's new system...will we abide by it?

The everlasting life is in the flesh on the earth.

(Psalm 37:11) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, And they will reside forever upon it.

I am a theist, and I have never told anyone anywhere that they are going to hell when they die. Think about it- didn't Christ Himself say that there were going to be quite a few surprises in that Day? Most of the time the people who know I'm a theist/believer, once they've built up the courage to do so, come to me and *ask* me if they're going to hell to burn for eternity for having done this or that. My response is always the same: "I'm not God, and I'm not your judge. If you're concerned about it, read the scriptures and see where you are in comparison to them." Works every time.

Even jesus told us not to justify anyone, but that doesn't mean dont stop someone when they are doing something wrong, the sentence You are going to hell, means "This is a wrong way of doing, dont do it next time, if you continue so YOU WILL GO TO Hell"

Secondly Being nice to everyone doesn't mean you are good,
Some times you have to be rude to people to make them understand what they are against in life,

Regarding the people in jail, they certainly deserve a second chance to live not to do sin again, thas Why constitution gave them a period to repent their sins Ok

Christians are not the ones who dictate whether or not a person is "going to hell". Mankind cannot judge a persons worthiness for entering heaven. Ego is a problem in all things. I'll tell you right now, more self proclaimed Christians are going to hell than anyone else. I KNOW of what I speak because I've lived it.

The people that make statements like that are missing the fundamental necessity and purpose for Jesus. If we could have done it or attained it on our own and based upon our own actions, then there would have been no need for Christ. Therefore our good or bad works are not what will separate us from God.

It is whether or not we reject what Jesus has done for us that determines our eternal fate. Many people quote John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life", but they forget that every scripture is a part of the whole chapter, and that chapter is a part of the book or letter. We must therefore read it in context of John 3:17-18, "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God".

It is not our actions or deeds that determine our fate, it is the actions of Jesus and whether we believe and accept what he has done for us.

Romans 10:9-10 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation". All we need to do is believe it in our heart and confess it with our mouth and salvation, atonement, and eternal life are ours.

Because those that do are control freaks that feel they must control everyone and they are so deeply depressed with who they are that the only satisfaction they get is by belittling others. Thank God the majority of Christians are not like that.

You are dissing Christians. I have never told anyone that they are going to hell. You live in a country where the dominant form of Christianity happens to be fundamentalism, and you are applying their characteristics to some 2 billion people across the globe. While it may be hard to believe, the dominat form of Christianity over here comprises less than 10% of Christians world-wide.

Christians are just like everybody else. Some them are afraid to admit it. They make mistakes to. No one is perfect, and anyone who tries to be will end up in psychiatric care. Those who condemn anyone else for their mistakes are only doing it because they are trying to make themselves feel better about their own.
