Yup, being overprotective!
I have a younger brother who is almost 10 years younger than me, so I look after him a lot and take care of him. Once he starts getting interested in girls and dating, I'm sure going to interfere and get involved!
I (like mothers) care for the boy, and want the best for them. So if you don't see the best for him, you're going to interfere and try to fix that.

Like Peggy says, they are trying to protect their sons. Sometimes though it does become intrusive, they have to know the boundaries.
