I am having trouble deciding what I want to go to college for. I just turned 18 and wanted to become a RN(Nurse) but I was recently diagnosed Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease, so becoming a Nurse is out of question, since I cannot lift more then 15lbs and being extremely active can sometimes be painful. But don't get me wrong, I still work and still work hard. So what should I do? I don't want to spend anymore then 2yrs in college and I would still like to make as much as a nurse (around $45,000 a year). So any ideas?? I like helping people and I love animals, but I am very open minded.

When we find ourselves in this situation we have to plan our career. Career planning is a deliberate process of knowing WHO we are so that we can be sure WHERE we want to go or WHAT we want to be at some defined point in the future. It involves an analysis of career/job options that are new to you. Career analysis is based on accurate, valid and timely information from --- reading, interviewing primary resources persons and direct observation of those persons while doing their job.

Here are some sites, which can help you plan your career.

Job Hunters Bible - My favorite. I have taught their system to hundreds of people with great results. Richard N. Bolles, America's dean of Career Consultants, heads the company and is also the author of the book, 'What Color Is Your Parachute.' This book should be available in your library.

I think what is really important in career searching is pinpoint of course your qualities and figure out what kind of environment you like.

1.Fast-Pace
2. Reactive or Proactive
3. Monday-Friday
and so on...

I was a nurse assistant for 3 years and also enjoyed helping people...I was going to college also to become a nurse. But after 3 years of working in that environment I decided I didn't want to work 12 hour shifts and be gone most of the day when I had a family. I also found that I wanted to have more control of my day instead of reporting in the morning and given an assignment and putting fires out all day.

My point to letting you know this is I still enjoyed helping people but realized there are so many ways to do this!!

You can get into Counceling, although, the education I think it a bit longer.
Social Work...money sometimes not as good as RN.

I know a few different things you can do that won't hinder your condition. I'd suggest starting your own home based business where you'd be helping a lot of people around the world. Get involved in one that is world wide. I have a couple in mind for you. Email me if you'd like their web sites!
Good Luck!

The best way to find out is to take career aptitude tests like this one http://gsx1.com/freeaptitest.htm and i they'll tell you what suits your own personality, based on the test you took.
there might be a few more tests here http://www.job--listings.info/
hope I helped, cheers

There aren't a lot of jobs that don't require very much physical exertion and where, with just two years of college, you can make that much. But good luck.
