It mainly depends how bad it was, with weapons? The comment regarding Lautenberg Amendment, ive done some research on that and I can't clearly find that its domestic violence, ive just read that it was Soldiers that had domestic violence cases.
The best advice I can give you is getting a full-time job, and just get more time between that incident, plus don't get in any more trouble. I'm really stretching this but you might have a chance, turn your life around. Maybe getting a college degree, and again get a full-time job. Then start applying if they ask, just say it was bad times, maybe they will see through it and see that after that incident you've got a degree and had a stable job.
Good luck!

Kiss your chance at a law enforcement career good-bye.
Thanks to the Lautenberg Amendment, no person with a domestic violence conviction, or who has had a domestic restraining order, or order of protection placed on them may not legally own, or carry a fire arm. And that includes policemen. When it came into effect, lots of cops lost their jobs because they could no longer carry a firearm.
Sorry to be the bearer of ill-tidings, but your are totally and terminally screwed.

You can "try", but honestly I doubt that you'd be hired.
That is a very serious charge and is not, nor should it be, taken lightly.
Hopefully, you have found alternative ways to direct your anger. No doubt there will be a job somewhere...just not in law enforcement.

In Ca a DV arrest bars you from owning a handgun for 10 years, so you got to sit out for three more...
