I just got a full set of braces off and the dentist told me to wear my retainers all the time. Do you think I could get by with only wearing them at night?

YES ok my friend was told to wear his all the time and he wore it only at night then went back to the orthodontist and they were all "good job! now you only have to wear it at night!" so then he never wore it then when he went back they said he didn't have to wear it anymore....

well, i have a funny answer to this one lol... i wear a retainer also.... and i usually do wear my retainer like i should... but i recently had dental work done, so it don't fit right now. i talked to my dentist about it, and he said orthodontisits push it too far, when you eat, your teeth need to naturally move, and be able to have a little space to give for the task of chewing. So, we really don't need to wear the retainer at all really, bc if you can go a day or too or even three without wearing it, and when you do wear it your teeth got back, then i think your teeth will do just fine. if your teeth are going to move back, when you don't wear it during the day, your teeth will probably move then, i don't really worry about it so much now that i spoke to my dentist. i do think u need to wear it a little while after the braces are off, but not for two years or longer. i would say that since you just got them off i would reccommend wearing them for 6 months, and then i would just lol wear them to my schedule. ps i know those retainers can be killers in your mouth!

Wearing your retainer all the time helps your teeth to stay and move all the time instead of wearing at night. When the teeth moves it helps to stay the teeth in the right place.

well however not true it sounds....it only takes about the weight of a dime to shift a tooth especially if you JUST got your braces off. if you had rubber bands placed in your mouth that was to guide your jaw in the right direction and to pull your teeth that direction too so YES wear your retainer!

it's a bad idea. you're teeth will move back quickly, and that might mean you have to get braces again. i would wear it all the time.
