Incest: A thought experiment?

Is Incest wrong?

Let's say that for the purposes of this quesiton that a couple that is related to a close degree (Incest) and has absolutely no possibility of having children. The man went under the knife and the woman had her tubes tied. There is absolutely no possibility of a child being produced from this relationship.

Let us also assume for the purposes of this question that this relationship is completely consensual with both parties. AND this relationship began after both parties were over 18 years of age.

Recap:
1) No possibility of a child being born
2) Completely consensual
3) Both parties are over 18

Present a good argument for why incest is wrong without using the bible?

I think it is wrong, but from a biblical perspective. That is why I am asking this question. I am asking people coming from a non-biblical perspective to give their thoughts on why it is morally abhorent.

I have not heard any real arguments with merit. And no, EWWW does not count as an argument.

Please come at this with a logical perspective!

I know almost everyone thinks it is wrong, I DO TOO! I am wondering why you think it is wrong?

When you exclude the bible, and if the 3 conditions are met, I cannot think of any wordly reason why people can be against a relationship that I proposed.

You can say that you do not FEEL that it is right. But then the question is why? Is it because of christian theology, is because of socialization, is because of the christian theological affects on socialization?

So present an argument that makes sense!

Because we are not animals. There are certain components to human morality that have been present longer than the Bible, or your version of it. If you are trying to point out that only religious people have morals, I would point out that suicide bombers consider themselves martyrs and kill in God's name, and I don't believe a civilized society would accept that as moral.

Incest is wrong because everything inside our spirit tells us it is wrong, just like murder, lying, cheating and theft.

It depends who the incest is between. The thing about family is that you have watched the person grow from a baby to an adult. In the case of mothers/fathers/uncles and aunties getting into incest with an adult who is their son/daughter/neice it just seems very wrong that someone can know a baby and watch them grow up for 18 years and all of a sudden just sexually fantasise about them. Parents should not feel that way about their children and neither should other older family members. You dont just decide that when your child turns 18 you will ask them out, you would have had feelings beforehand which makes it paedophilia. In the case of brothers and sister etc its weird but not AS wrong.

Even animals have the good sense not to be sexual with their siblings.
IT IS WRONG!!!
For one thing it causes all kinds of issues emotionally that may not surface for years. It creates havoc within the family social structure and is usually based on lack of self respect and at least one of the parties having been molested by a family member.

Well besides the eww factor that most people have when it comes to thinking about having sex with a close relative if those three facts are included I really do not see anything wrong as long as don't spread this kind of behavior to others around them which is unlikely to happen because incest alone is rare and its probably even rarer to find a case of incest that has these conditions.

I hope that this is purely anecdotal....

Ignoring ALL religions (not merely the bible), these two siblings would have to be sole surviving -- meaning, no one from their family was still alive that saw or remembered their childhood. What an awkward wedding that would be... "And are you a guest of the Bride, or the Groom?" "Ugh,....both?!?"

Second, who are we kidding? After two years of infertility treatments WE were told we couldn't have children. I'd like for you to meet my one year old baby that had no possibility of being born....

Lastly, let's not ignore the psychological state of affairs that must be present for two siblings to crave **each other**!!! It is neither appropriate, nor healthy for either of them.

Good golly I hope this is all just rhetorical.....

I just generally think that it is wrong because this person shares the same DNA as you do. I mean granted we are nor am I hear to judge I can just tell you what I think.

I think by dealing with someone of your family you are short changing yourself. You are not allowing yourself to be with someone else. You deserve to be with someone who is not your family. I mean wouldn't you want to be able to introduce your mate with the judgmental stares and whispers?

Because the two people "in question" are related.

Its just Icky, if its your mum, its more gross because she is older and she made you, if its your sister its just wrong because you are related and its just ewwww.

At least there wouldnt be too many people at the wedding cause it would only be one family instead of two.

There is still a slim chance of pregnancy, even when "fixed".
And I know this isn't an educated answer, but that's just freakin nasty dude!!! Plus, how uncomfortable for the rest of the family on every holiday or birthday or cookout. Just wrong.....

I have no relative I would want to be intimate with no matter how that persin acts or looks. It is wrong in so many ways. ick
