My bf has a small dog. Whenever we have sex, she jumps on the bed and tries to lick one of us. then he gets up and puts her in another room. I think it's gross. She also barks all the time if he is not paying her attention and doesn't listen to him unless he has food in his hand. He seems to reinforce her bad behavior by giving her food when she is barking. Sometimes instead of cuddling with me while watching a movie he lets his dog sit on his lap and pets her. He also lets her sleep in his bed at night and talks to her like he talks to me, "gorgeous, baby, etc." Is all this normal? What should I do about this?

Also, whenever he is affectionate towards me, she starts barking at me and scratching with her paws OR she tries to lick my face all over. He doesn't really do anything about either behavior.

There is a reason for the saying that a dog is a mans best friend..
You are right though that your bf is rewarding negative behavior by feeding her when she's barking..
Dogs are pack animals though and don't like to be alone which might explain the barking when she is put out of the room.. Dogs require a lot of attention.. But at the same time he needs to let her know that he is the pack leader and has control.. with that control he should be able to calm her when you are around and spread some of that attention your way..

Tell him to check out the "Dog Whisperer Show" or web site.. there is a bunch of information there to help with just this sort of problem..

lol... He loves his dog like a child... what're ya gonna do!!! Just try to hint around to him that sometimes this kinda wigs ya out. Try innocently joking around with him, maybe he'll get the point. I'm telling you right now, if you try to confront him angrily about it, then he's gonna get a little indignant about it! The best you can do is hope that he respects you enough to try and curb some of this behavior (his and the dog's)... He's not gonna get rid of the dog or treat it drastically different, he is obviously very attached to it. Maybe you could do something like refuse to give him any love until he puts the dog in the other room 1st.

totally normal. though, i don't have a bf or anything? i still know this is normal.

it's becoz guys are..well dumb sometimes and their numb! they don't care about the things happening around them. maybe u should go talk some sense into him. i'm sure if u ask him nicely, he'd just put the dog away, into someplace else..and u guys can go have fun then! just remember 2 ask him in a flirty way. guys like that. good luck!!

Maybe his dog is very important in his life. If he's had her for a long time, there's a connection. Like she's like a friend to him. Nothing wrong with that. You don't have to do anything.

No, it's not normal.

I would confront him and tell him how you feel. Give him one more chance. Maybe he doesn't mean to do that. But if this continues throughout your relationship, then I would warn him. "It feels like you care more about your dog than me. I'm breaking up with you if you don't quit acting like this." Just tell him. Good luck!

Seek counseling...you are jealous of a dog. That shows that you either have a self-esteem problem or a high-maintenance queen problem. Either way, it needs fixing.
