You do not choose when you enter; you choose on selection night. On that night, in the order of class standing you will choose what job you want in the Navy based on availability and whether you are qualified (for example, pilots must have 20/20 vision). The academy graduates about 1000 each year and I believe there are about 250 Marine billets per class.

So as an example, let's say you are ranked 720th in the class, you would wait until your number is called and then you would go choose. If when you get there, there is still a Marine Corp billet (pilot, ground, etc.) you can choose it. If not you may find yourself driving a ship instead.

Many folks will choose majors that will allow them to get better grades and choose earlier. After all most people don't use their degrees anyway.

I chose Navy pilot.

By the way, the obligation is more than four years. When I graduated it was five years active duty and 3 years reserve. But if you chose aviation, there were more years added after you completed training.

You don't just ENTER the Naval Academy. You must enlist, be accepted, etc. Part of THAT process is stating that you are coming in as a Marine or Seaman.

I think you have to be selected to participate in the Marine Corps option.

you select the Marine Option a few years after, somewhere in your last year. in the meantime, you are just a plain ordinary Middie.

Yes. You can choose Marine or Navy and if you pick Navy you can then choose surface ships, submariner, or pilot.
