Question: If its a 24 hour day and the world is at most 10000 years, how do you explain light years and the fact that astronomers can see 14 billion years into the past in their telescopes?

First of all, there are a number of great theories proposed to handle this using a creationist cosmology (just look on http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/faq/astronomy.asp and http://www.apologeticspress.org and http://www.icr.org ).

But God can do what He wants; what would be the use of creating the stars for us if we couldn’t see them? Without that light, the night sky would lack the patterns necessary for the signs, seasons, days, and years specified so clearly in Genesis 1:14.

Second, they fail to mention their own light travel time problem. As Dr. Jason Lisle (an astrophysicist) has said, “The light-travel-time argument cannot be used to reject the Bible in favor of the big bang, with its billions of years. This is because the big bang model also has a light-travel–time problem.”

It’s called the “horizon problem.” The big bang requires that the different regions of the universe started with very different temperatures. But today, they all have almost exactly the same temperature in all directions (I’ve read) to a precision of 1 part in 100,000. We know this because of the Cosmic Microwave Background. There has not been enough time (even with their 20 billion years) for these regions to exchange light in order to come to the same temperature. This is an enormous problem.

As Dr. Jason Lisle further said, “The horizon problem remains a serious difficulty for big bang supporters, as evidenced by their many competing conjectures that attempt to solve it. Therefore, it is inconsistent for supporters of the big bang model to use light-travel time as an argument against biblical creation, since their own notion has an equivalent problem.”

You can’t reject creationism because of a problem when your alternative, the big bang, has essentially the same problem. When they say, “I’m not going to believe in creation because I don’t understand how you can get light from here to here in 10,000 years”—I just answer, “Well, I’m not going to believe in the big bang because I don’t understand how you can get light from here to here in 20 billion years.”

What does reading the word of God have to do with this? Unless you mean bury your head in the sand. That is a very good question indeed. How do Scientists see billions of years into the past using rays of light if the universe is only 10,000 years old. Or was the Universe there then God created the Earth? If so thats much less impressive than creating the Universe. I suppose you could give a NON answer by saying that God created it that way. I would hope that one such as yourself though who loves science would not accept this answer. The answer could simply be that this belief of a 10,000 year old existance is false. Believe it or not they have also proven the Earth to be over 10,000 years old through various Scientific methods one of which would be Carbon Dating. There are those who would say that since the Universe started out smaller that it would have taken less time to get to Earth, this however does not explain the proof that the Earth is much older than 10,000 years. There will also be those who say that time means something different in the biblical sense "ie" that a day to god is years for us. There will always be ways to justify your own belief if you try hard enough. Personally i do not subscribe to the biblical account of things.

Time elements are discussed in the Bible.

There are weeks of days
Days of weeks
Weeks of years
Thousand days of years.
24hr days
Creative days

Psalms 90:4, 2 Pet 3:8, talks about the difference between how humans view time and how God views time
when a thousand years passes in human history it's only like one day to God. this is not specific or litural but gives us some kind of time element that god lives by incomparison to us mear humans where our life span is but a twinkling of an eye.
1 Col 15:52

So the first 7 days were not litural 24 hr days but creative days as 1 year is 365 days one creative day would be 365 thousand years. which would be more logical scientifcally speaking. Has scientist have found it to impossible for all the findings that they have dated to fall into a 24hr creative period more so they would fall into the creative day period as the Bible brings out. Note to GOD rested on the seventh day with no conclution. So we are now what is called " waiting in GODS rest.
all the way up our present time period today.

So what is GOD waiting for.Well very soon Gods kingdom is going to take over all mankinds affairs here on the earth.Dan 2:44
THat Kingdom will be ruled by Christ Jesus as King of that kingdom government aand do away with all human governments on the earth and all the former things will pass away Rev 21:3,4 . Then the earth will be transformed back to the paradise it was orignally intened for so we can live forever in peace and harmony under Gods new arrangment of things. then the seventh day will have ended and GOd will then beable to say '' Then there came to be morning then evening and the seventh day has ended.
So keep listing to the news and the world around you and very soon you will see a great change one that mankind has never seen nor will ever see again.

Sincerely yours

I believe that Astronomers don't know everything yet about the universe and they only think its that big.

The reality is that their techniques for measuring distance are not correct, just like Carbon 14 dating does not work.

As time goes on, unless Jesus returns first, I expect that one day Astronomers will learn why they were messed up thinking things were that far away when they really aren't.

Leap seconds and all the things we've learned from NASA and the several trips men made to the Moon, all point to the young age of the earth the moon and the universe.

Scientific evidence tells us how old each of the people in the genealogies going back to the first human, when they had their kids, but these aren't even years. They were rounded off to the nearest year. Creation scientists don't know the exact number of years of the Earth, the 6000 year figure is an estimate. In fact, creation scientists almost all agree on this hypothesis that years were rounded off in the genealogies going back to the first human.

They invented a theory called C-decay, which suggests that the speed of light has decreased since the time of creation. Basically, it used to go a lot faster, so it got here real fast from way way way far away. Pretty ingenious idea, but like all creationist ideas, there is not a shred of evidence for it.

I think it has something to do with the concept of a day. Also, the closer a planet is to the sun, the shorter its "day" is. Which is why days on other planets are measured by a common factor, earth days. But then, there is that saying "in heaven a day is like 1000 years, and 1000 years a day" or something like that.

I can answer this question but the problem is I don't have th time. This would be like writing a term paper. The answer lies in the stretching out of the universe. I will recommend that you read IN SIX DAYS why 50 scientists choose to believe in creation by John F. Ashton PhD. Your answers are in there.God bless!!

Those calculations are dead wrong and most intellectuals know it.Yet,little fools repeat the lies as if they were the gospel truth. And it was 6 days and 6,ooo years.7th day was one of rest.No scientist can prove anything beyond 5,000years or so.

a day to God can be 10000 years..and did you notice that God created the heavens and the earth first...now look back into the Hadean(the first period) period..what was created in that time period? the solar system including our planet...and so on.
