I'm coming across more and more Christians who say they don't actually find the Bible credible and then others who believe only some of what has been written.
Can you be a Christian and not believe what has been written in the Bible?
Strangely enough, I think NOT believing in the Bible and still being a Christian sounds more credible because it suggests that you “know” God in your heart rather than put your faith in a book which tells you what you are supposed to believe.

Even as a young child being raised Catholic, I knew that the Bible was
1. Not written by God, but by man.
2. Filled with parables and not to be taken literally.
I don't know why so many people have trouble with these concepts.

If the written Word of God is not all true then, none of it is true. How then could we know about God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit? The Word tells us.

The Bible is God's written Word to us.
It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Above all you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2 Peter 1:20-21. (New International Version)

Breakdown of the Bible
36 human authors inspired entirely by God over 1600 years.
66 separate books

39 Old Testament
Genesis- The creation of the world, sin, flood and birth of Israel
Exodus to Esther- History of the nation of Israel
Job to Proverbs- the books of poetry and wisdom
Isaiah to Malachi- Prophecy or foretelling of the future events to come.

27 New Testament
Matthew to John - Four Gospels representing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ now with all authority in Heaven and earth.
Acts- Birth of the Church (The Bride of Christ)
Romans to Jude - Letters to the Churches
Revelations - The ultimate future plans for: The Church, Heaven, Hell, a New Heaven and a New Earth.

A Christian who does not believe the bible is, in my opinion, a Christian who has not found a good bible teaching church and spent time studying it. Listen. I've studied the bible for ten years. No one "tells" me what to believe. Study is just that, a personal, reflective looking in to the claims that the bible has within it. Each person makes their own discoveries, no one can convince anyone else that the bible is the word of God. Only God can do that.

If a person claims to be a Christian and doesn't believe the bible, my first question would be, where do you get your information about Jesus Christ? How do you know, if you dismiss scripture, that He can truly save you from your sins?

I know that the God who inspired the original writers of the Bible is the same God who had the same power to inspire the translators of the Bible. What sense would it make for God to send His Son, Jesus Christ to die a cruel death for us on the cross then leave us without an understandable or credible instruction book about what to do with that gift and how to live Godly & Holy lives? I absolutely believe the Bible & when I don't understand something in it I pray for guidance and/or go to my Pastor for assistance. Never once has God let me down.

Petra your perception is correct. To be a true believer you must believe the scripture.
When a Christian doubts what God has seen fit to leave us, they miss the big picture, faith!

The bible is the inspired word of God, it is true. Read it for yourself and make your own conclusion, get a New Living Translation written in plain modern English. Or will you have contempt, prior to investigation?

I believe the Bible, but it doesn't tell you everything like Adam's origanal wife, Lilith, who is now a succubus.
The Bible is stories of important things in puritanism.

To not believe the Bible, is to me, calling God, the real author of the Bible, a liar.

I don't put my faith in a book, but that book tells me who God is what He expects.

I believe that the bible is true as far as it is translated correctly. But because the bible has been translated so many times, some of the messages have been altered.
