IF that should happen (and it won't), when you know you're number is about to be called, you can join any service you desire. Period of enlistment will be longer, but I would have to believe that bonus money would be available to those who enlisted..........

If there is a draft you would be from your selected service number. Meaning since only male age 18+ have to register, the most likely out come is that only male are drafted. And if you wanted to go for the Marine Corp instead of the Army, it would be more likely to do so before you get drafted. But don't worry there isn't gonna be a draft any time soon. The government doesn't want another Vietnam all over again...

If there is a draft, you will always have the ability to JOIN up with any branch that will take you before you get your draft notice. However, once you get the draft notice they generally do not let you go into another branch or service. Since the Army needs the most people, if they send you the draft notice, you get to go into the Army.
And if we get involved in a big enough war, they will restart the draft. If they do not draft you as a body, they will draft you as a specialist. IE: They could not get enough nurses in Vietnam so they instituted a special draft of male nurses and got 900 of them.

If the draft were reinstated (unlikely in foreseable future) you absolutely can enlist in any service. Navy, Air Force, or Marines, but your enlistment must be complete before the date you are to report for army physical. Just beaware that no Marine draftee has ever washed out of basic training in time of war. Some have died in training but none have washed out
In 1967my cousin joined the marines he told me on several occassions that his DI nearly beat him to death ....He sent hin to the infirmery on at least 2 occassions Corps has changed over the years and it is probably not that bad now but back then even his owm father a Major could not help him, He said if knew a senator but the senator said if they knew he had gottten involved that my cousin would find himselp in front of the troops and when he looks around there wont be any out there just him and the enemy.

actually ted, vietnam had a draft and that was as late as the 1960s to early 70s. however, in response to the question, my grandfather during WWII received a draft notice to the army. rather than accept that he immediately went and enlisted into the navy and got in. i would imagine that you could do the same with the marines. besides, the marines "go in" first. i'm sure the "brass" would be most happy about your decision.

During Viet Nam, my brother saw his draft number coming up and enlisted prior to being drafted. Because he did, had choices with regard to his MOS... those who waited to be drafted typically went Army Infantry.
And there IS NOT and WILL NOT BE a draft... sheeesh...

There is no "she" draft, and every man gets drafted into the Army that I'm aware of, or at least that's the way it was when the draft was actually in effect (which it's currently not).

A) There is no draft
B) There is no plan for one
C) You cannot realistically expect that A or B will change in the foreseeable future
D) IF there ever is a draft, they will have to decide on the rules; so, it would be foolish to speculate what your options might be

if theres a draft, they are probably going to just put you where they happen to need people at that time
and I doubt there will be a draft any time soon
