Very Interesting Question!!
I have had a 2000 GP (your body style GP) and now have 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix (New Body Style) as Company Cars AND a 2005 Nissan 350Z as a Personal Car! I think your question was custom made for me!
First of all, I like the performance and handling of BOTH GP's (although the newer one has 200 HP vs my older one only having 175 HP....25 HP makes a sizeable difference!). AND I always wished I could have gotten them with a Manual Tranny to squeeze more power out of the engine!!
While the GP DOES have quick and sporty reflexes, being that it IS a Sports Sedan....I won't say that the 350Z is the Nissan equivalent to it, as the Z is REALLY a hard core, no-nonsense Sports Car.
For the Nissan equivalent in performance and price, I'd say the Altima Sedan with the 3.5 L V6, assuming you have the Grand Prix GT (which was around $23K for a 2002 Model). If you have the SE (Base Model) GP, which was around $20K in 2002, you'll spend a bit more for an Altima V6.
The Altima has ALWAYS been an excellent car in terms of handling and performance AND reliability. PLUS, you have the option of the Altima Coupe or Sedan and Auto vs Manual Tranny.
Hope that helps! Good Luck with your new car (Go with the Nissan!! YEAH!!)

i would definitely have to recommend the maxima. as far as year goes, the 95-99 generation was great and ahead of its time. It comes with a extremely reliable 3.0 engine and does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds which is a good enough boost for you. I would recommend to get the Maxima GLE, which comes leather, sun roof, cd player, casette player, cruise control, dual power seats, and also a programmable garage door opener. One of the main reasons why i did not purchase the nissan altima is because in this generation the altima was a much smaller car. Test drive the maxima and trust me you will love it. Had a maxima for 11 months and did not have a single problem with the car that was not my fault, (had a few accidents, not gonna lie). The only negative thing that i can say about the maxima and the altima might have the same problem, is that you might have a check engine light come on when it hits this age. Obviously have it checked out and scanned by a mechanic, but mine came on for a knock sensor which i never replaced but did not do any harm to the engine, just soemthing stupid that you need to pass inspection. But the truth is that if you are getting it inspected you can have the computer cleared and the inspection place won't know anything is wrong with the car.

I went from a two door Pontiac GTP to a 2006 GTO but Nissan Equal car would be a Altima Or Maxima But get the 3.5 liter V-6 engine in either. Also note the 6 speed manual transmission is available. Blue tooth, Navagation and cool features. Get it fully loaded.

The Altima would be the most comperable,
it ios available in a 4 cylindar or a 3.5litre v6, sedan or coupe, and available in a 6 speed manual transmission of you prefer.
The Altima is a great car, reliable, sporty, and a great vehicle for the price.
