I am in the army now for national guard. I enlisted September 28, 2006. To be honest, I got the same reactions like you have now. But joining the army made me more confident of myself. I love the training it was an adventure for me, I met a lot of people and met a lot of friends and this training made me physically fit too. Also, I am currently enroll now where I am taking a nursing program for free which is the education benefit that the army provides. It is not true that if you join the army you will go Iraq and you will die. If that is true, then there will be no more military alive. Life is a destiny if you believe in God.

i got some weird reactions when i would tell people about me joining the army. they would always ask why, ask what im going to do if i dont like it and tell me they hope i dont go to iraq. it was kind of annoying but i grew up in a military family so it wasnt really ground breaking for me and my family to take it. plus i lived in a place where not a whole lot of people joined the military so no one could really fathom my decision. at the time i was confident in my choice and thats what kept me from second guessing myself. unfortunately they were right and even though basic training was a freakin breeze, i really hate the army. so maybe i should have thought it thru a little bit more. i felt good about my decision at first, but it sucks. dont let people get you down about your choice. my response to these people was either, i joined for my country, or iraq is part of the job description

I was reading the answers, and most were very good. People have their own reasons for joining the military, as i had my own for doing so. If ts right for you, than do it, dont let anyone decide your life for you. And all of the answers telling you, you are stupid, are just scared and unknowing little scared bitches. And to all of the answers with 6 thumbs down that are telling you they are proud of you and you are doing a good thing....listen to them, ignore the thumbs down, they are just afraid to make a choice and stand behind it. Those in the military will stand behind you 100%, and always will. Good luck.

a lot of human beings confuse the targets of militia workers which includes your self with the targets of the militia leaders and decision-makers, which will reason some harsh seems upon people who connect the militia. Many human beings now no longer sense that the government represents their pastimes, and that the army is in actuality the government's single potential which serves to "get issues accomplished", and, if their view, in a malicious or maybe frightening way by using using wonderful rigidity. some seem at contributors of the militia as though they sense such blind faith in the government is rightful, while it is not reflecting what they desire as voters.

Well, well...I appreciate your question.....greatly appreciate it. I will let my 360 profile answer why.
Anyway, once upon a time, there was this man that came to me and stated that I do not want my son to have anything to do with the military. I told his dad, "okay sir, have a nice free day." About one year later, he joined the Army not only because he felt that it was his duty to serve his country, but that he can make his own decisions. This new soldier told me this story and remembered my name. It is funny how things happen sometimes. You can probably figure out what I do now by the way.
To tell you the truth, I honestly feel that anyone that reacts like that is because they are afraid of the unknown or to successed. Everyone really does not know how the military works. I hope you are satisfyed with what you signed up for and I am very happy to see that you realize your sacrifices.
Good Luck to you,

The stupidity of this move is beyond your comprehension.
You will only understand when it is too late.
You might not fight in the front line, but there's a very good chance you will get posted to Iraq. After all, somebody has to replace all the previous idiots that got themselves blown up.
So while you perform administrative duties, or whatever it is they have you do, be very careful that you don't get kidnapped, and raped to death in all your orifices by a whole tribe of insurgents.
That's why it's stupid, but I call it Natural Selection.

Unfortunately, this is the modern view of the military. They all seem to think that people in the military are idiots, can't do anything, don't know anything, and are losers.
Phooey on them! All branches of the military have, on average, persons have higher IQs and caliber than their civilian counterparts.
Don't worry about other's views. I served in the Army, as did 3 of my brothers. Two retired from the Navy. The other one served in the National Guard/Army Reserve. All of us have at least some college. It is your decision; do what is best/right for your life.
I admire those who are willing to serve their country.

There is a stream of thought that travels the through the undercurrent of American consciousness that believes anything related to the military is inherently undesirable. The question from your "lady" exposes her utter lack of comprehension that a military career is a noble undertaking. Putting a life on the line for America is to be expected from our citizenry. Putting a life on the line for the freedom of others in the world is heroic. As Americans, no matter whether we like it, we are the leaders of the world.
Those who attempt to deter you will play on your fears, hence "if you want to get your head shot off for oil. . .". Pay them no mind. The military is one of the last bastions of our society where we learn to care for ourselves and you will be better for it.
Be proud of the uniform because for all our faults, the American military is the standard for the rest of the world. We are admired and hated because of our excellence, unfortunately some of those haters are here in our midst.

People treated my husband like he was crazy when he left a good job to serve in the military. People see a tragedy like 9-11, they "see" a war and say "Run for your life" and hide from a draft. The brave sign up and protect the very lives that doubt them. For every one of these cowards is a person who is proud of you!
It is the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press;
It is the Solder, not the poet who has given us the freedom of speech;
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer who has given us freedom to demonstrate
It is the Soldier-- Who salutes the flag; Who serves beneath the flag; and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

You should be very proud to serve in your countries military. You are a person that wants to give something to their country, and that is a good thing to do. Then you have the "Takers". The takers or users, which ever you wish to call them, that just keep taking and never give anything back. Hold your head high, and Thank You for your service to our country..
