he got,and continues to be, overly 'mushy.' I like the occasional act of sweetness, but he completely over does it. I thought girls were the ones to want all this. But frankly, it's creeping me out. I'm not entirely sure what to do. I just recently met his friends and family (which is very extensive) and I'm thinking I might get mauled if I break it off so soon.
Any advice on how to ease into it?
I'm desprate, and being suffocated by 'sap' as we speak.

I hate to sound like an old person, I'm 24, but I noticed when I was younger girls around your age and even early 20's don't really appreciate nice things being done. Buying flowers or planning a special date or something is more looked at as going overboard or being pathetic rather than being appreciated. I date older women in their 30's now and don't run into that problem. Plus theyr better in bed.

Tell him to ease up on the romance/sentimentality a bit. Some guys are just like this, and he may or may not take the hint. If he doesn't, then you may be best off just ending things as cleanly as possible. You might consider if you have any female friends who are similarly overly romantic, and set him up with them... they may be a better fit for him, and everyone's needs will be met that way.

I always liked the "I'm not that kind of girl" statement. It's such a good lead in to anything you're "not."
"Sorry Joe, I'm not that kind of girl."
"What kind?"
"The kind that likes to be mushy and sweet all the time. Hope that's ok."
Maybe he'll break up with you!
:) good luck

when he acts "mushy" just playfully say... ew dont do that... or something along those lines. he might take the hint. if not then sit him down and talk to him about limits and whats bothering you.
