15 minutes. I take long baths instead.

If he's waking up tired, a longer shower can be helping him to wake up. I know I did half hour and even longer showers during stressful University days, and wasted an atrocious amount of water (and ironically, that time could have helped with making those days less stressful and then I wouldn't have to wake up so tired...).
It can also be a place where you are private, nobody will bother you, and the soothing shower noises can drown out all other sounds, so you can just think, or talk to yourself, or whatever, if your son is in to that kind of introspective thing.
With that said, I'm not sure how you're so sure it's not "the obvious".
I can get clean in about 10 minutes, but of course I occupy the bathroom longer since I have to brush my teeth thoroughly, and shave my face -- if I shave in the shower, especially after a few days of not shaving, that will add substantially to my time.

Well it takes less than a second to take a shower. Once the drops of water hit you then you're in fact taking a shower. And once leaving the shower for a split second you've taken a shower. Women take longer cause they're vain as women should be especially with the extra pumps wink-wink. Also being clean by nature attracts the opposite sex and helps us to stay healthy. That's why I recon women and men spend more time in the shower on a Friday night for example. Think about it! Isn't Friday's or Saturdays in general harder to get access to the shower? As for me here in Japan it's 35cg today. So after work I'll spend longer in the shower than usual to cool off first then wash. I think country to country is a little different based upon climate too. Japanese for example! They can spend 1hr just having a shower and that's not exaggerating! French less since perfume rather than soap was used back in those days. So let's imagine a huge sumo sized woman and a super model slim girl taking a shower together. I bet the model would finish first since she'd be worried of 2 things. I think you can guess what I mean so my final answer is taking a shower depends upon the person you are and the culture of life you have. But I'd say 15-20 mins on the universal average time for a shower based upon the average size of a human body.

My shower takes about twenty mins! If am going to work though, I can spend ten mins and be done. My foster mum has two teenage sons and when her eldest turned 14, he started spending 30-40 mins in the shower and it drove her nuts!! She would nag him until he got out! I think that is most teenagers in general! She used to joke that he was just standing under the shower sleeping!

10 - 15 min is average. I had 5 teenagers at home. They took forever in the shower. The answer was to set a timer for 15 min, then someone would go down to the water heater and turn off the hot water. We had 3 bathrooms but only one water heater.

It takes me between 5 and 10 minutes, depending on whether I'm just showering or washing and conditioning my hair too.
But I can fully appreciate your question as my 14 year old daughter can spend an age in the shower too!

I say unless you are in a big family rushed for time, stop timing him. Instead, move him to the front or end of the line and let him shower on. There is no nicer beginning to a day than a long, hot shower. Maybe he is mentally preparing for the day in his own way. It is a private space for him so be kind and let him be.

With water restrictions in our country we are only allowedshort showers. A good wash all over should only take 10 minutes, aliitle longer if you are washing hair particularly girls. My daughter only takes 15 minutes if its a hairwash.Less for ordinary wash.Buy your son a timer for the shower.Teenagers dont shower as regularly as they should.

I have a five minute shower if i'm lucky every morning. I'm always running late for work so have no more time. If i'm not in a hurry and i have to shave my bits and pieces, it can be 10 mins.
