I did the door to door missionary work. I never personally condemned people for having differing beliefs. It's not my place to condemn in the first place nor do I want that job. I never liked to tell people that they were "wrong" per se but I always tried to tell them that I had more to offer on top of the positive base they had already built.
I kind of see it this way.......if I discovered a cure for cancer, would I keep it to myself and tell nobody? I don't think so. I would go out and try to share it with anybody and everybody that would listen to me. I guess I kind of feel like I have the cure for spiritual cancer. Believe me, my purpose wasn't to annoy or condemn. That's the last thing I wanted. However, I know there are those out there that do that. Nobody's perfect.

They have something important to do and that is to share their message with you. If you don't want to talk to them, tell them you aren't interested. You won't be the first to tell them that.
I don't know about other churches but when the Mormon missionaries are knocking on peoples doors, that is their job for two years (18 months for women). That's all they do. No school. No members of the opposite sex. Just spreading their message.
They do respect peoples privacy. If someone isn't interested, they leave. They don't start "tracting" early in the morning or late at night. They would NEVER condemn anyone to hell!
I have some experience with these things. We have had the Elders come to our door, not realizing we are members. They have always come mid-afternoon.
I also have one son that has been home for a year and my youngest is in Montreal. "Elder Steve" will be home on October 4th!!!!

I think most people can make up their own minds about which faith thy want to follow and since most of these door knocking religions have buildings of worship..it's not like people can't go to them.
So I'm kind of lost at what the point is for these people to waste their time door knocking when the majority of people aren't interested in hearing from them.
I think they should do something more constructive in helping people like go and help feed the homeless etc because just reading the bible and preaching it to others doesn't cut it with me. There is more to being a good human being than just that.

Well, I can't answer your question. You see, when someone becomes a Christian, they no longer have their "own words and thoughts". Their words are what God says in the Bible and their thoughts agree with what the Bible says. They use the Bible to tell God's view of things. I'd really be able to give you a good answer, but since you don't want to know what God says about it, I can't.

I don't do that, but I respect anyone who believes something fervently enough to act in harmony with it and reasonably enough not to blow someone up over it. I prefer to say a polite "not interested" to being blown up in a terrorist attack or subjected to a neo-crusade/genocide.
Jesus pissed people off, he died for it, he didn't blow anyone up because of it - not the worst example in the world. You should be able to put up a no trespassing sign to relieve the problem.

I would go door to door if I had the courage. I understand that this bothers people because I have people coming to my door. The only thing I do not appreciate is that they are not willing to listen to my point of view. The minute I start speaking they get this blank look on their face. I would go door to door to encourage and ask people if they needed help and if they did I would try to find it for them. We are not hear just to preach but to meet needs

Get a Rottweiler and a good locking screen door...put your dog's bed in front of the door (leaving open the solid door)...they'll never bother you again...all the door-to-door salespeople (including those trying to sell their religion) didn't knock on my door for nearly nine years until my Rottie died!

I think I'm on the do not knock list. I threatened the last ones that wouldn't go away with the law. They didn't come back...

Its better to invite them in and preach no-religion to them. It doesn't stop them from coming, but just maybe you can get one of them to see the light. They live in a medieval myth of morbidity and darkness.

I have found in the few times they have bothered me that I can confound them with a little Q&A on the particulars of their books (e.g, why it John 3:3 problematic, why did John change the date of the crucifixion and why)
After a few minutes they go away defeated
