I came across this article in the newspaper today and immediately thought of all the people who come on here, claiming NASCAR is not a sport. Take a look and let me know your thoughts...Enjoy!

I disagree with golf being more of a sport than auto racing, but the guy is entitled to his opinion, I guess

That is a great article!!! It gave me the goose bumps just to read about the last will in testament the drivers need! To go over 200mph for 4hrs straight in the hot sun is so overwhelming for me to understand how someone could say that Nascar is not a sport and the drivers are not athletes. Its CRAZY!!!!! I feel so privileged to be a fan of this SPORT!!!

Sounds like the guy has been spending too much time in the hot sun watching Buckeyes pat each other on the butt.
Isn't there like an Ohio law that stipulates no sporting event may draw more people than a Buckeye football game or something like that?
Is that why NASCAR doesn't race in Ohio?
Or, is there some other reason?
I'm still trying to fugure out how "fear factor" is a consideration in football.
I played football and it's not scary at all, even though I was a 145 lbs offensive guard going up against people twice my size. Piece of cake, easy. The scariest thing about it was the coach on the sideline promising a big foot up my tail if I screwed up.
Ohio is still into games.
I know, I know.....I see a lot of Ohio plates at the races so some of them are pretty smart.

Nascar is the first sport I ever know and payed attention to. Nascar is my favorite thing to watch every Sunday on summer. Nascar is an American Sport Nascar isn't a sport, it's a lifestyle(I miss those Busch beer commercial). Nascar tracks are churches. Nascar is a sport. Merry Christmas Nation.

Sport=competition
Each athelete trains mentally, physically and strives to improve the equipment for performance and safety.
this is a summary of a very complicated answer. Racing puts more effort into the equipment than the others but the teams are basically pretty equal within hundreths of a second, in the end those hundreths are a small part of the outcome of the race.
I actually think team sports are more challenging than individual sports because of the exponential possibilities for error affecting the out come. 1 bad weld or missing bolt can make all the difference in the race. 1 dropped ball or bad throw.
I guess you cant really rate all sports on one scale.

Good looking out,thanks for the heads up.I think about half the time that question is asked its just so the asker can do a little bashing.The other half of the time the asker thinks because almost everyone over 16 can drive a vehicle,then theres no athlectisim involved.We all know thats hogwash,but trying to explain it,mostly falls on deaf ears.I've always maintained I could hit Roger Clemens' fastball,but saying it just isn't the same as doing it.Thanks again for the link.

I am very glad that someone in the media has acknowledged NASCAR as a sport in this manner. I personally disagree with the order of the sports in his top 10 but I am actually endeared to him for saying it is a sport.

I remember a Busch beer commercial that answered this particular question rather well.......some people may say that Nascar is not a sport....their right, ITS A WAY OF LIFE!!!!!!
Besides I want all the nay sayers to get into one of those cars and do what those racers do on an almost weekly basis and then say its not a damn sport!

Nascar is totally a sport!!! Team. Work. Ernest Hemingway said that Car Racing and Bull riding are the only real sports because they're not 'games'...i love that...GO TONY!!
