...that they have been persecuted for their beliefs and Atheists have not? I don't believe in God and I live in Arizona, which means I've gotten persecution all my life. Do some Christians not realize the ammount of persecution they have thrust upon Atheists as well as other religions? The Mayans? The Aztecs? Pagans?

I know Christians have been persecuted, but saying that Atheists, Agnostics, and even other religions have not is just insane. (And no I am not calling Atheism a religion or not here, thanks)

Any thoughts?

Jakex-- my hair is purple for the fun of it. I've had every color, and next is red :)

Steve-- Arizona is a big Christian and LDS area. I live in a tiny town and it's really strange here. If you don't dress a certain way, if you wear black, if you have piercings or just don't "look Christian", you get persecuted. Yelled at, spit at, glared at, thw whole deal. I'm a good person but because I don't attend their church I get verbally attacked. Glad I'm moving soon.

I don't start arguements with random people, I don't care what religion another is. But I just find it odd that people think that whatever religion they are is the only religion that gets persecuted-- every group at one time or another was the minority or just simply hated.

I never said Atheists got killed like the Christians were, I just find it odd that some people say Christians were the only ones persecuted...but Christians have killed thousands of people who didn't share the same beliefs-- they went so far as to destroy all Mayan religion and culture, and burn all of the Mayans' texts. And look at all the other massacres on non-Christians. Back then if you weren't Christian, even if you were Atheist, you would be dead fast. So death among Christians for their beliefs is a moot point.

And Ronbo...comparing Christians that died for their beliefs in past years is like me trying to get compensation for my Cherokee ancestors kicked out of their land-- the arguement just doesn't fly.

You're quite right. It doesn't matter what faith you are, whether you have one or not. It doesn't even matter what race you are. Everyone is different, and we're all being persecuted for one reason or another because of our differences.

You just have to ask yourself, "Can't we all just get along?"

Stop the hate, and the persecution (for everyone) ends. I'm doing my part, what will you do?

Sweetie, just because you dont' see it happen, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I've never seen an Atheist get persecuted against. I've never seen a Mayan get persecuted against. I've never seen anyone spit on a Pagan or Wiccan. However, I know that because I don't see it with my own eyes doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Just because you haven't seen anyone push or spit on a Christian, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Some people only believe what they see. If they don't see it happen, then it didn't happen. They might not have seen what you saw or what others saw. Instead of getting upset that they don't believe you, or say that you haven't been persecuted, take some comfort in the knowledge that it doesn't happen around them. Maybe they live in an area where there are many more Atheists so the persecution isn't on them. Or they live someplace more open minded.

Well, if I met you and saw you 50 or 60 times the subject of religion would never come up unless you brought it up. So I wouldn't know what religion you were or not.

I know people that I have known for years, and although I assume them to be Christians, they may well be atheists but I don't know because the subject never comes up.

Pretty hard to persecute someone for their beliefs when most people that I know, I wouldn't know what to persecute them for being.

Is Arizona on another planet? Do people walk around asking others what they believe? I think whatever problem you may have is because you bring the subject up all the time.

Btw, most people could careless what you believe, including me.

I am a Christian myself. And I have faced persecution many times for being a Christian. But I do not regret being a Christian at all. For Jesus said that we would be persecuted while we live upon this earth. But I'm sure that atheists suffer persecution from other people for the way that they believe also. But the most important thing to me, is to know that my heart is in right relationship with God when I leave this earth. For where I am going to spend eternity is most certainly of great importance to me. The only thing that I know to say to you concerning being an atheist, is to please check your heart to the bottom. Who gives you breath and strength to live your life every day? I do not believe that it is just automatic, or just so happens to be there. Please give God a chance, for your own good.

maybe because what you call "persecution" and what Christians call persecution are two different things...i don't see any atheist killed for their non-belief in the world...but Christian get killed for their belief in the world...there is a bigger picture in the world than just exchanging of words...

--edit--
i don't know why some Christians say only Christians are persecuted but they don't speak for the whole...during the colonization of the world Christians didn't go out as Christians to conquer that was the state and businessman...they used Christianity as an excuse to explore for the sake of the "gospel" Christians don't go out killing people because of other unbeleif...if that were true why did so many Christian go around the world to be missionaries if there intention was to kill who don't beleive...most of the written languages in the world where first written by Christian missionaries because they wanted to print a Bible for each tribe in the world...many of the killings in the name of Christianity has be reactionary for defense or for misrepresentation of the religion in order gain support for a cause...basicly manipulating the emotions of the Christians...for example the first Christian crusade was a good one...it was a reaction to the Islamic campaign that had been happening for over 400 years and coming into Europe...so the Christians united europe and then fought off the invasion of islam...but the other crusades had only selfish intentions and cause great harm for the name of Christianity...

my stats on years is not exactly right, but i'm not sure where to verify the dates, but by memory in the last 20 years, more people who claim to be christian have been killed than in the years to Jesus preceeding.

There was a time when the world was pro-christian or at least mostly christian,

the world is post christian, and times for everyone from wicca to mormom to zorastor faith will come under hard times and persecution.

I wish I had a clear answer for you, but all of those of faith are under the gun...Jew, agnostic, christain, muslim all are looked at with suspect

Every group has been persecuted somewhere somehow at sometime but for Christian Americans to claim this is either insanity, brainwashing, or ignorance. Most of them are their own worst enemies.

All Christians are worried about is being on the first bus to heaven. They don't care a wit about you or anyone else as long as they are forgiven. I don't forgive them, so I think they may have screwed the pooch.
