My husband and I have lived in our home for 7 years. We live on a quiet, dead end street where people always take very good care of their home and maintain their yards. Last summer, a family moved in across the street who DO NOT maintain anything. They leave garbage in their yard, they leave their garbage dumpsters tipped over at the curb ALL WEEK, there has been old, rotten carpeting sitting at the curb for 5 weeks because the garbage man wont pick it up, they don't mow their grass EVER.They are complete slobs and when I look out my front window, that's what i see everyday! I wrote them an annonymous letter and mailed it asking them NICELY to keep their yard picked up take some pride in our neighborhood. It didn't work. It's still disgusting over there! I'm pretty non confrontational, and I don't want to get into an argument with them, (Mostly because they're kinda scarey and I don't want them to burn my house down) but I want my neighborhood to be tidy and picked up! What would you do?

There are ordinances that require people to maintain their living environment in a certain manner.

Its obvious that your neighbors are not living in the way that is required by law.

Report them. You should call the health department and let them know what is going on across the street. If you don't want problems then do it anonymously.

Be prepared for your neighbors to be jerks to the whole neighborhood.

They will think that you all are the"troublemakers", and that you are out to get them.

They might even use the line, "its none of your business what we do on our property.

Rotting carpet, turned over garbage dumpsters and tall grass can bring in rodents, snakes and can cause disease.

Are their children on your street? Well, its definitely not safe for them to walk pass your dirty neighbors yard.

You should also keep track of things that you notice, the date that they first left the dumpster turned over, the date(s) you sent the letter, the times you will have to call the health department and other agencies... Anything and everything that you've notice that is illegally going on, or that is harmful to the living environment of all those around you.

Don't let the neighbors know you are doing it, and don't tip them off in advance.

Good luck and I hope that you get the to clean up or get them out so, some clean neighbors can move it..

CD you might get the neighbourhood a little neater looking if you were to call anonymously to your municipal government and I'd bet that there are city violations for such neighbours. A warning they would probably be given at first but if they do not abide by this warning then the city often will clean it up and charge the people. It's very difficult when you don't get on with the neighbours but there is not any harm in calling your City Hall and speaking with the proper department and explaining the situation. Certainly the city would do something for you as they don't want to have bugs and diseases started in their political ridings. Best of luck.

If it worries that you much then talk to the council . Have you tried talking to them? How abou inviting them over for a barbecue.Perhaps they dont have access to a lawnmower/Offer to mow the lawn for them.Find a way to be good neighbours. Admittedly I have left my bins out this week because they are full.

If they are renters call thier landlord (go to county auditors website and punch in address) Also you can call the police department and file a complaint and call health department etc.. and just keep complaining and keeping a journal of everything that you see and date it!!

Report them to the health department and other agencies. What they are doing is illegal. Also grass is not spose to grow over a certain height. Find out where you can report all of this then do it.

Most towns and cities have ordinances that prohibit all you have said....They MUST mow their lawn or the city will do it for them and then bill them or add it to their taxes....There is also a junk ordinance.......... call your local courthouse or health dept... I know there are laws against this.... this doesnt have to go on.......
